SEMINAR “Play and the Utopian Imagination” Dr. Johan Siebers in conversation with artist, Steve Pool with Kate Pahl, School of Education 10-11.30am Friday 13th May Room 8.10 The Education Building “The adventure playground is a kind of parable of anarchy, a free society in miniature, with the same tensions and ever-changing harmonies, the same diversity and spontaneity, the same unforced growth of co-operation and release of individual qualities and communal sense, which lie dormant in a society whose dominant values are competition and acquisitiveness.” (Colin Ward). The Adventure Play Movement finds its origin within a utopian vision, a hope that personal renewal and a more just social order could emerge through unregulated play. This is an ARHC Connected Communities Utopia Festival funded project between the School of Education and the School of Architecture with Artist, Steve Pool, (The Poly-technic), Johan Siebers and Pitsmoor Adventure Playground. Dr. Johan Siebers is a philosopher, working on the historical and systematic aspects of some of the classical questions of philosophy, in reference to contemporary discussions and questions. He specializes in the work of Ernst Bloch, author of ‘The Principle of Hope’. COME AND DISCUSS PLAY, UTOPIAS AND ANARCHY ALL WELCOME !!
