This class is designed to help you understand how the topics and skills you learn in school (like reading, writing, and mathematics) are used in the “real world.” Example Connections: Math teaches us problem solving. How can we use this skill in life? _____________________________________________. Language Arts teaches us how to communicate. Why is it important to have this skill when you apply for a job? __________________________________ Unit Titles: Teamwork – team building, conflict resolution, and goal setting Library Detective – learn to use our library resources, note taking skills, and create citations Hot Off The Press – news writing, interviewing, reporting, editing, blogging, and publishing House Design – architecture, interior design, scale and maintaining a budget Roller Coaster Science – using physics concepts to design a roller coaster Caravans – cultural awareness and world geography Class Supplies: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. For each unit, students will be assessed on information using various activities including long-term class projects, individual/cooperative learning assignments, participation, quizzes, tests and homework.
