Overview
About the Department
Employing over 350 staff, ACS has operational responsibility for a diverse property portfolio
and a comprehensive range of services that include catering, residences and conferences.
By its very nature the department expands and contracts to match the developing needs of
the University as a whole.
The department is responsible for providing accommodation and related services and
support for nearly 6,000 students in its residences. It runs a number of highly successful bars
and food outlets, delivers catering to meetings held throughout the University and provides
venues and catering for conferences and special events such as weddings and graduations.
The department is split into four sections: Accommodation Services, Commercial Services,
conferencewithUS and Central Support.
Job Role
We are seeking self motivated and enthusiastic individuals to join our Housekeeping Team
within Accommodation Services.
You will be required to clean specified residential and/or public areas in the University’s
accommodation to the required University standard using the appropriate cleaning
techniques, equipment and materials for each task. You will also take responsibility for the
security of areas during and after cleaning including the safekeeping of keys, and report any
equipment faults, damage or repairs to the Team Leader.
Full training will be given to achieve NVQ level 2 in Housekeeping.
Job Description
Main Duties and Responsibilities

Clean specified areas using the appropriate cleaning techniques, materials and
equipment.

Clean other areas as requested by the Team Leader to cover for absent staff or during
conferences and respond to occasional cleaning requests from departmental staff.

Use cleaning equipment and materials correctly and safely in accordance with health
and safety regulations. Clean equipment regularly and store away after use.

Make requests for cleaning equipment and materials to the Team Leader.

Report any cleaning equipment faults, damage or maintenance issues to the Team
Leader.

Ensure the safekeeping of keys during working hours. Turn off alarms and lock doors
after cleaning as appropriate.

Answer queries from students, staff and visitors in the building.

Carry out a thorough deep clean of specified areas during vacation periods and
maintain stock of linen and sundries and carry out servicing duties in accommodation
areas.

Maintain an awareness of the well being of students and refer any issues to the Team
Leader as necessary.

Carry out cleaning tasks according to University guidelines, which indicate when and
how these tasks should be carried out. Work to a cleaning schedule.

Prioritise own work, work around users of the building and ensure that areas, which
are used first are cleaned as a priority.

For each task, organise the relevant cleaning materials and equipment and display
safety signs.

Any other duties, commensurate with the grade of the post.
Person Specification

Job 1-working 20hours per week Monday to Friday-9.00am-1.00pm (4 posts)
Job 2-working 8 hours per week Saturday and Sunday-7.00am-11.00am (1 post)
Benefits
Terms and conditions of employment: Will be those for Grade 1 staff.
Salary for this grade: £13,621 to £13,977 per annum pro-rata, with the expectation of
annual incremental progression. Potential to progress to £14,344 through sustained
exceptional contribution.
