About the Department

The Department of Estates and Facilities Management (EFM) at the University of Sheffield are responsible for maintaining the University’s buildings and gardens, managing its property and facilities and procuring new buildings.

The University’s estate contains a wide and varied range of propert ies which understandably present their own challenges. Some such as the Arts Tower, are of great architectural importance and must be preserved as part of our nat ional heritage. Examples of new facilities on campus include the

Sheffield Inst itute for Translat ional Neuroscience (SITraN) which was opened by the Queen in

November 2010, the award winning Informat ion Commons Centre, a £23 million learning centre for students which opened in 2007 and the Jessops West development which opened in January 2009 creat ing academic facilit ies for several departments.

EFM also includes the significant act ivit ies of Transport Services, Parking Services, Campus and

Residences Security Services, Campus Portering and Cleaning.

EFM work with all departments to ensure that our services are of the highest quality and best value.

Job Role

Cleaning Services aim to provide a quality cleaning service to sat isfy the requirements of all users of

University premises, ensuring that all rooms are ready to fulfil their purpose. We currently service the majority of University buildings on the Main Campus and some at the Northern General Hospital site.

This post involves cleaning of University propert ies including; offices, laboratories, lecture theatres, toilets and any surrounding areas to the University’s standards.

Full training will be given to achieve NVQ level 2 in Cleaning and Support Services/Housekeeping.

Job Description

Main Duties and Responsibilities

 Clean specified areas using the appropriate cleaning techniques, materials and equipment.

Clean other areas as requested by the Team Leader to cover for absent staff and respond to occasional cleaning requests from departmental staff.

Use cleaning equipment and materials correctly and safely in accordance with Health and Safety regulations. Clean equipment regularly and store away after use.

Make requests for cleaning equipment and materials to the Team Leader.

Report any cleaning equipment faults, damage or maintenance issues to the Team Leader.

Ensure the safekeeping of keys during working hours. Turn off alarms and lock doors after cleaning as appropriate.

Answer queries from students, staff and visitors in the building.

 Carry out a thorough deep clean of specified areas according to business needs.

 Carry out cleaning tasks in accordance with the University’s guidelines. Work to a cleaning schedule.

 Prioritise own work and work around users of the building and ensure that areas which are used first are cleaned as a priority.

For each task, organise the relevant cleaning materials and equipment and display safety signage.

Any other duties, commensurate with the grade of the post.

Person Specification

Applicants should provide evidence in their applications that they meet the following criteria. This post is part-time: morning positions available working 17.5 hours per week.

Benefits

Terms and conditions of employment: Will be those for Grade 1 staff.

Salary for this grade: £13,621 - £13,977 per annum pro-rata. Potent ial to progress to £14,344 per annum pro-rata through sustained except ional contribution.
