Pursue the extraordinary Overview About the Department Academic Unit of Medical Education (Teaching Office) The Academic Unit of Medical Education at The Medical School provides undergraduate education for over 1300 students, who graduate with the qualification of MBChB. The medical degree programme is an intensive course, with students required to undertake full-time study for 45 weeks a year from the third year of the course and to meet their learning objectives through a range of clinical placements, centrally managed lectures and tutorials and a range of formative and summative assessments. Students in The Medical School also have an opportunity to spend a year working towards an additional research degree (Intercalated BMedSci or a Master’s Programme), with approximately 60 students a year taking on a further year of study. You will particularly support Student Selected Components (SSCs) and other assessed coursework submissions throughout all Phases of the MBChB programme and will ensure that the turnaround time for marking, collation of results and hence return and provision of feedback to students is improved and consistently meets the University guideline of being returned within three weeks. You will assist with collection and processing of student evaluation data which will aid in identifying patterns of risk across the programme and areas for quality improvement and enhancement. You will also provide support for processing applications on a twice yearly basis for visiting elective students; provide support to the Admissions Team in processing UCAS applications and will also cover for the Information & Communications Officer (Reception) during lunchtime which will allow continuous staffing of the reception area from 9am – 5pm. Job Description Main Duties and Responsibilities Assist MBChB clerical support staff with the receipt of in-course assessments and distribution to markers, collating and recording marks and feedback before return to students. Ensure up-to-date and accurate course information is posted to the School’s Virtual Learning Environment (Minerva). Provide lunchtime and holiday cover for the reception desk, answering general face to face and telephone enquiries redirecting or recording, as appropriate. Handle small cash payments and provide receipts in line with University’s financial directives. Assist with the organisation and delivery of the Phase 2 and 4 Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCE). Assist the Electives Officer with the bi-annual application cycle. Prepare and distribute induction materials for visiting students. Maintain both electronic and paper student records scanning, photocopying and filing as necessary. At busy times of the year, assist the Admissions Team in processing UCAS applications, organising interviews and help support the University and Medical School Open Days. Assist the Quality Assurance Lead with the collation and processing of student evaluation data. Provide cover for the Dean’s Personal Assistant as and when necessary. Assist with the provision of transcripts and certifying letters for graduates wishing to study overseas. Any other duties commensurate with the grade of the post. Person Specification Applicants should provide evidence in their applications that they meet the following criteria. Criteria Essential Desirable Qualifications and experience 1. Five GCSEs (including Maths and English) at Grade C or above or X equivalent experience 2. Experience of working in a Higher Education professional X services environment. Communication skills 5. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal. X 6.
