Brief career history
I have a long career in secretarial, administrative and management roles (20 years NHS and 25 years at the University of Sheffield). I have extensive experience in management, supervision and appraisal of staff including complex
HR issues. I am a member of several Faculty Groups and Committees.
I currently specialise in staff training, appraisal and career development and chair the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Training and
Development Group. The Group was established in September 2010 to identify individual and department learning and development needs whilst developing and sharing best practice. The Group links closely with the HR staff development function and facilitates communication of opportunities, skills enhancement and understanding of other areas across the University.
It aims to help staff ensure they have the skills and knowledge to implement their objectives and become equipped to meet departmental and University priorities
In 2012, I was responsible for establishing a mentoring scheme open to all categories of professional services staff across the Faculty (400 staff). This scheme now incorporates professional services staff from all 5 University faculties.
I am experienced in project management, devising and implementing new policies and procedures, setting and monitoring standards to deliver excellent customer service and increasing understanding between provider

and end user.
I became a University Internal Reviewer for Investors in People (IiP) in 2013 and I am currently working to introduce the IiP standard into the Faculty along with an apprenticeship programme in Business Administration. I have been a member of the Association of University Administrators since 2008 and I am currently Joint AUA Sheffield Branch Co-ordinator.
