A student for one of the Master’s Degrees in the School of
Education who has not been awarded that Degree or the
related Postgraduate Diploma or Certificate may be permitted
by the Faculty, on the basis of the student’s performance in
the programme for that Degree, to become instead a student
for the Degree of EdD. Where such a student has been
awarded credits in respect of taught units listed in the
Regulations for the relevant Master’s Degree, the Faculty may
permit units to the value of not more than one hundred and
twenty such credits to be substituted for units of the same
value listed at 2 above.

During Part II of the programme, a student will pursue a
programme of research in accordance with the General
Regulations for Higher Degrees by Research, and will present

A person may be admitted as a student who has a degree in
Psychology and is eligible for the Graduate Basis for
Chartered Membership (GBC) of the British Psychological
Society. Relevant experience of working with children and/or
young people via employment with a Local Authority or
employer deemed to be equivalent is also a pre-requisite to
admission.
2.
The programme of study will be pursued for three years.
Supervised practice in Educational Psychology on placement
will be for a period amounting to half the total programme
time during the programme of study.
3.
A student will take
(a)
prescribed coursework, including evaluative projects, case
studies and critical papers on a range of relevant topics;
(b)
supervised practice in educational psychology on placement;
(c)
a thesis.

The examination will consist of
(a)
evaluative projects;

assessment of clinical competence on placement;
A student who

holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology from a
University recognised for this purpose by the Faculty, or

Educational Psychology (EDUT29) in this University and has
satisfied the examiners

voce at the end of Part I if this is deemed to be necessary by
the Head of Department.
A student will pursue a programme of research in accordance
with the General Regulations for Higher Degrees. The thesis
will be submitted by a date prescribed by the Head of
Department in the final year of the course. A student may resubmit the thesis on one occasion only within twelve months
of the original submission date.

A student who fails to satisfy the examiners in any part of the
assessments may be permitted to retake that element on one
further occasion. In addition a student who accumulates 4
failed (on each first submission) pieces of coursework (see
Regulation 3a) will not be allowed to continue on the
programme.

In the event of failure of a fieldwork placement in year 1, a
student will be required either to repeat the placement
successfully or undertake successfully an alternative
placement. In respect to the course requirements for year 1, in
the event of failure in two consecutive placements, a repeat
placement or two non-consecutive placements, a student will
be excluded from the programme. The majority of placement
competencies expected by the end of year 2 and all those
expected by the end of year 3 need to be demonstrated (see
Regulation 3b).
A student who has successfully completed all academic and
research components of the course, despite failing the
fieldwork placement component may be awarded the Master
of Arts in Education and Child Psychology. They would not
under any of these circumstances be professionally qualified
educational psychologists or be able to practice as such.
A student who contravenes the Code of Conduct for
Psychologists or the Guidelines for Professional Practice of
Educational Psychology of the British Psychological Society
may be dealt with under General Regulations as to the
Progress of Students, the General Regulations relating to

Psychology (Graduate Basis for Registration as a Chartered
Psychologist of the British Psychological Society), has a
Master’s degree in Educational Psychology (professional
training), is eligible to be registered with the British
Psychological Society as a Chartered Educational
Psychologist and/or is registered as an Educational
Psychologist with the UK Health Professionals Council.

The programme of study will be pursued for a minimum of
three years for fee-paying purposes.

proceeding to Part II. This may involve a requirement to
successfully undertake a viva voce at the end of Part I if this is
deemed to be necessary by the Head of Department.

A student must pass four or more of the six units listed at 3
above at the first attempt in order to proceed to Part II of the
programme. The Head of Department may require a student
who has not satisfied this requirement to become instead a
student for the MA in Educational Studies.

A student who has been awarded one hundred and eighty

A student who fails to satisfy the examiners in any part of the
examination may be permitted to retake that element on one
further occasion. In addition a student who accumulates 3
failed (on each first submission) pieces of coursework (see
Regulation 4(a) – 4(c)) will not be allowed to continue on the
programme.

Education who has not been awarded that Degree or the
related Postgraduate Diploma or Certificate may be permitted
by the Faculty, on the basis of the student’s performance in
the programme for that Degree, to become instead a student

Where such a student has been awarded credits in respect of
taught units listed in the Regulations for the relevant Master’s
Degree, the Faculty may permit units to the value of not more
than one hundred and twenty such credits to be substituted for
