In respect to the course requirements for year 1, in the event of failure in two consecutive placements, a repeat placement or two non-consecutive placements, a student will be excluded from the programme. The majority of placement competencies expected by the end of year 2 and all those expected by the end of year 3 need to be demonstrated (see Regulation 3b). A student who has successfully completed all academic and research components of the course, despite failing the fieldwork placement component may be awarded the Master of Arts in Education and Child Psychology. They would not under any of these circumstances be professionally qualified educational psychologists or be able to practice as such. A student who contravenes the Code of Conduct for Psychologists or the Guidelines for Professional Practice of Educational Psychology of the British Psychological Society may be dealt with under General Regulations as to the Progress of Students, the General Regulations relating to Student Fitness to Practise or the General Regulations as to the Discipline of Students. 7. EDUR161 DOCTOR OF EDUCATION (Language Learning and Teaching) (EdD) (Distance Learning) 1. 1. A person may be admitted as a student who has a degree in Psychology (Graduate Basis for Registration as a Chartered Psychologist of the British Psychological Society), has a Master’s degree in Educational Psychology (professional training), is eligible to be registered with the British Psychological Society as a Chartered Educational Psychologist and/or is registered as an Educational Psychologist with the UK Health Professionals Council. 2. The programme of study will be pursued for a minimum of three years for fee-paying purposes. 3. A student will take staff candidate 2. The programme of study will be pursued for not less than four years and not more than eight years. The time limit of Part I of the programme will be four years. The time limit for the presentation of the thesis will be four years from the commencement of Part II. 3. A student must complete Part I of the programme satisfactorily before proceeding to Part II. This may involve a requirement to successfully undertake a viva voce at the end of Part I if this is deemed to be necessary by the Head of Department. 6. A student must pass four or more of the six units listed at 3 above at the first attempt in order to proceed to Part II of the programme. The Head of Department may require a student who has not satisfied this requirement to become instead a student for the MA in Educational Studies. 7. A student who has been awarded one hundred and eighty credits in respect of the units listed at 3 above and (a) does not proceed to Part II of the programme, or (b) fails the thesis Part II a thesis 4. The examination will consist of (a) Critical literature review; (b) Critical evaluation paper; (c) case study; (d) thesis; (e) an oral examination in matters relevant to the subject of the thesis 5. A student who fails to satisfy the examiners in any part of the examination may be permitted to retake that element on one further occasion.
