JOB OBJECTIVE
Performs the most complex and responsible inspection and analytical work in responding to complaints
and/or requests for services from the general public; or performs responsible work investigating noncompliance issues in support of a regulatory program for the Metropolitan Government. Performs
related work as required.
JOB DESCRIPTION
MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Investigates complaints, request for services and/or instances of non-compliance.
Inspects completed work projects to ensure compliance.
Gathers data and facts through on-site investigations.
May review documents, both current and historical.
Interviews pertinent individuals to gather specific facts.
May hear and investigate complaints.
May issue citations to violators.
May initiate work orders.
Develops and recommend courses of action open to the department and analyze their probable
consequences.
Conducts follow-up investigation to ensure issue is resolved.
Refers noncompliance cases to appropriate authority as necessary.
Performs responsible administrative procedures.
Ensures that processes are followed in accordance with accepted practices of the department.
Answers questions about the compliance program and guidelines.
Provides authoritative interpretations of policies, rules, and regulations.
Writes detailed reports of investigations.
Maintains records and preserves reports.
Prepares concise reports on programs or projects.
Assists with the training of new compliance officers.
Performs emergency inspections, as needed.
May serve as liaison to members of the public or representatives from various agencies on matters
relating to service or regulatory program.
Keeps abreast of any changes or modifications in services, delivery procedures and/or regulatory rules
and policies.
May attend public meetings pertaining to departmental services and/or programs.
May attend various meetings and training sessions.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED/SUPERVISION RECEIVED
This classification may lead and train Compliance Inspectors and support personnel.

This classification receives limited supervision and reports to a designated supervisor, who provides
direction on complex matters.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work environment involves both office and field duties. Office duties involve the everyday risks
or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and
training rooms, etc. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. In the field,
employees are subject to loud noise, heavy machinery, traffic, etc.
This classification works both in an office setting under generally favorable working conditions, and in
the field. There may be extended periods of walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, etc.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma and 8 years of increasingly responsible inspection, investigative, or compliance
experience in support of a regulatory program or service.
OR
Two (2) years of college and 6 years of increasingly responsible inspection, investigative, or
compliance experience in support of a regulatory program or service.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
Thorough knowledge of all applicable laws and regulations affecting compliance program or service.
Knowledge of significant court and administrative decisions affecting compliance program or service.
Knowledge of the policies, patterns, and practices as they relate to the compliance program or service.
Knowledge of the materials, methods, and practices used in compliance or service area.
Knowledge of departmental rules, policies, and internal procedures.
Skill in applying investigative methods to obtain or reconstruct missing information.
Ability to investigate complaints in a professional and efficient manner.
Ability to enforce codes and regulations.
Ability to analyze, discuss, explain, and interpret compliance regulations.
Ability to detect deviations from regulatory policy or procedure.
Ability to accurately compile and analyze complex data.
Ability to accurately maintain records, files and reports.
Ability to ascertain facts by personal contact, observation, and the examination of records.
Ability to use sound judgment in decision-making.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to deal courteously with the public at all times.

GRADE LEVEL CRITERIA/ILLUSTRATIONS
The following examples illustrate some of the many combinations of situations, factors,
and responsibilities in a SR-10 Compliance Inspector 3 position:
Performs, under general direction of upper level management, work requiring different and unrelated
processes and methods.
Guidelines are available for the work of the employee, but do not cover every possible situation.
Work involves treating a variety of conventional problems, questions, or situations in conformance
with established criteria.
Personal contacts may be with individuals or groups within and outside of the government in a
moderately unstructured setting.
LICENSES REQUIRED
Valid "Class D" Driver's License may be required for some positions in this classification.
