Movable Chalkboards The Contractor shall provide Weyel vertical sliding units with minimum “Life of Building” warranty. Fixed Chalkboards For fixed chalkboards and whiteboards, the Contractor shall provide products manufactured by Greensteel or Nelson Adams. These units shall be a minimum of 0.0025-in. vitreous porcelain on minimum 24-gage enameled steel mounted on a 0.5-in. particle board with a Class A flame rating. A minimum 50-year warranty shall be provided. Tackboards The Contractor shall provide units that meet a Class A flame rating. 10155 METAL TOILET COMPARTMENTS The Contractor shall provide minimum 22-gage type 304 stainless steel laminated to a seven-ply exterior grade plywood core for all metal toilet compartments. Lever-type latch hardware shall be provided on all handicap-accessible stall doors. 10165 PLASTIC TOILET COMPARTMENTS The Contractor shall provide solid high-density polyethylene type plastic toilet compartments with heavy-duty hardware, including full-length mounting brackets. Santana high density polyethylene (HDPE) “School Spec” is the standard adopted by the University. The Contractor shall provide lever-type latch hardware on all handicap-accessible stall doors. 10200 LOUVERS AND VENTS The performance requirements of all louvers shall be determined by Design Consultant. The material, finish, and appearance shall be specified by the Design Consultant and addressed in this section. The Design Consultant shall ensure that louver specifications are not repeated or contradicted in Division 15 Mechanical Systems. December 1998 P. 10-3 DIVISION 10 DESIGN A SPECIALTIES F Louvers Location Where possible, louver sills shall not be within 24 in. of any horizontal surface, such as grade, paving, or roofs, because snow can drift and build up in these corners and can possibly block the bottom of the louver. Louvers shall not be near building entrances, major exterior walks, or outdoor sitting and lounge areas. Air intake louvers shall not be located near loading docks, trash dumpsters, or vehicular parking areas. Material All louvers shall be extruded aluminum and must bear the Air Movement and Control Association (AMCA) certified rating seal. Bird and/or insect screens shall be provided on the interior face of the louvers, as required. Finish Louvers shall be finished in clear anodized aluminum and/or color anodized aluminum and shall be Class 1, 0.7-mil thick anodize or Kynar 500TM based paint. Vents For wall vents (brick vents), the Contractor shall provide extruded-aluminum louvers and frames not less than 3.18-mm thick with 1.4-mm x 1.8-mm mesh aluminum insect screening on the inside face. The Contractor shall provide weep holes, continuous drip at sill, and integral waterstop on the inside edge of the sill. Load-bearing design and construction shall be provided. 10270 ACCESS FLOORING The Contractor shall provide access flooring capable of supporting loads in accordance with the Ceilings and Interior Systems Construction Association (CISCA). The preferred systems most widely in use at the University are manufactured by Tate Access Floors, Inc. 10416 DIRECTORIES A standard has not been established by the University. All design proposals for directories must be submitted to the University Project Manager for approval. 10425 SIGNS This section describes the type and material for identification, directional, and informational signage to be used for all interior signs. All signage must comply with ADA Code, Section A4.30 Signage. P. 10-4 December 1998 DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION STANDARDS DIVISION 10 FACILITIES MANAGEMENT SERVICES SPECIALTIES Identification Signage Interior Room Identification Signs (Types A, B) Interior Room Identification Signs, Types A and B, Laminated Acrylic are shown in Appendices 10-1 and 10-2. For material and ADA specifications, refer to Interior Suite Identification Signs. The sizes are: • Type A: 6 in. x 6 in. • Type B: 6 in. x 6 in. Interior Suite Identification Signs (Types C, D, E, F) Interior Suite Identification Signs, Types C, D, E, and F, Laminated Acrylic are shown in Appendices 10-3, 10-4, 10-5, and 10-6, respectively. Interior room and suite identification signs shall be wall-mounted panels, 0.100-in. clear semi-matte acrylic-face laminated to 0.125-in. acrylic backup. Color specification shall be provided by the University. The edge of the sign panel shall be finished to match the background color. The various sizes are: • Type C 9 in. x 9 in. • Type D 9 in. x 9 in. • Type E 12 in. x 12 in. • Type F 12 in. x 12 in. Text shall be helvetica bold condensed raised a minimum of 0.03125 in. Color shall be white unless otherwise directed. Braille shall accompany all permanent text. Acceptable material for raised text and Braille shall be photo-polymer plastic laminated to 0.018-in. galvanized steel sheet. Individual solid letters and Braille shall be affixed to the face of the sign panel by high-strength permanent adhesive. All exposed fasteners shall be 0.5 in. x 1.0 in. countersink spanner-head tamper-proof screws; screw-heads shall be finished to match the panel color. Directional Signage (Type G) Interior Directional Signs, Type G, are shown in Appendix 10-7. For material and ADA specifications, refer to Interior Suite Identification Sign Type F (Appendix 10-6). The size is Type G: 9 in. x 15 in. Informational Signage (Type H) Interior Window Informational Signs, Type H, are shown in Appendix 10-7. For material and ADA specifications, refer to Interior Suite Identification Sign Type F (Appendix 10-6). The size is Type H: 9 in. x 15 in. December 1998 P. 10-5 DIVISION 10 DESIGN A SPECIALTIES F 10550 POSTAL SPECIALTIES This section pertains to mailboxes only. The standard adopted by the University is manufactured by Bommer Series 6101. The Design Consultant shall comply with U.S. Postal Service Publication 17 requirements for contraction and installation. 10552 FIRE EXTINGUISHERS, CABINETS, AND ACCESSORIES Fire Extinguishers All fire extinguishers must be appropriately UL rated for the type of fire area in which they are placed. Extinguisher placement will be in accordance with National Fire Protection Association, NFPA-10. Wall-mounted extinguishers shall be positioned 40 in. above floor level, clearly visible, and in areas where they will not conflict with normal movement of personnel or placement of equipment required for usage of the space. All portable fire extinguishers will be provided by the University. Fire Extinguisher Cabinets The following fire extinguisher cabinets have been approved by the University: Larsen Architectural Series (white enamel on steel, standard door type): • 2712-SM Surface mount; inside box measurements: 30.5 in. (d) with a 4.25-in. rolled-edge trim projection Larsen Cameo Series (white enamel on steel, standard bubble type door): • C3115 Fully recessed; rough opening measurements: 32.75 in. (h) x 16.26 in. (w) x 4 in. (d) with a flat 0.75-in. trim projection • C3115-RL Semi-recessed; rough opening measurements: 32.75 in. (h) x 16.25 in. (w) x 2 in. (d) with a 2.5-in. rolled-edge trim projection Fire Hose and Cabinets Where required, all fire hose and related cabinetry will be provided by the University. P. 10-6 December 1998 DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION STANDARDS DIVISION 10 FACILITIES MANAGEMENT SERVICES SPECIALTIES 10651 OPERABLE PANEL PARTITIONS Operable panel partitions shall be manually operated; individual panels shall be constructed with an aluminum frame. Finish material shall be as required and approved by the University. The performance requirements shall be as follows: • Sound transmission requirements shall be not less than STC 43. • Noise reduction requirements shall be not less than NRC 0.60. • Noise isolation class shall be not less than NIC 40. Areas above the ceiling line and below the floor line shall be insulated as required to achieve the above ratings. Approved Manufacturers The following manufacturers have been pre-selected for work at the University: • Hufcor • Modernfold 10750 TELEPHONE SPECIALTIES A standard has not been established by the University. The Design Consultant shall submit a proposed “telephone specialty” type to the University Project Manager for approval. 10800 TOILET AND BATH ACCESSORIES The following toilet room accessories manufactured by the Scott Paper Products Company shall be provided by the University and installed by the Contractor. Paper Towel Dispenser—Scott “Capacitor” 9755-Double Jumbo Toilet Tissue Dispenser— Scott JRT Jr. “Escort” 95666 (Jumbo toilet tissue dispensers are too big to install under grab bars as shown in ADA Guidelines, therefore, they should be installed above the grab bars.) Utility Shelf—Stainless steel utility shelf in all men’s stalls Soap Dispenser—Scott sani-fresh twin-pack dispenser 92500 Waste Can—Freestanding covered waste can in lieu of a built-in or combination unit. (Built-in units have insufficient capacity.) Sanitary Napkin Dispenser—Recessed or surface-mounted Bobrick B-3502 or B-2802 or approved equal that employs a 10-cent operation Sanitary Napkin Disposal—Bobrick B-271 or approved equal surface-mounted unit with utility shelf December 1998 P. 10-7 DIVISION 10 DESIGN A SPECIALTIES F All other toilet room accessories shall be specified by the Design Consultant and provided and installed by the Contractor. 10850 RECYCLING CONTAINERS As mandated by Pennsylvania State law, the University is developing a recycling program. Programmatic requirements for recycling shall be included in the design of the work and shall be as follows: Office Paper—32-gal, dark blue, square Rubbermaid container: 22.5 in. (h) x 25 in. (w) x 21 in. (d); space shall be allocated in each copy room within office areas for this container, which will be provided and installed by the University. Beverage Cans—32-gal, dark blue, round Rubbermaid container: 22 in. (dia.) x 27.25 in. (h); these units shall be located in lounges, kitchenettes, and convenient to large lecture rooms. These containers shall be provided and installed by the University. Glass—Glass shall be recycled at a central University campus location. Adequate space shall be provided for all types of recycling containers. 10905 CUSTODIAL AND SUPPLY STORAGE ROOMS Custodial Rooms In new buildings or major additions, the Design Consultant shall provide one custodial room for each 15,000 to 18,000 ft2 of floor space, with a minimum of one per floor. Custodial rooms must accommodate the following: • Floor sink • 44-gal brute barrel: dimensions 23-in. (dia.) x 38 in. (h) • Utility shelving: minimum 18 linear ft • Maintenance cart: dimensions 38.5 in. (l) x 18.5 in. (w) x 38 in. (h) • Mop-drying racks Each custodial closet shall contain 120V and 220V electric receptacles located near a light switch. Also, each closet shall be properly ventilated. Custodial Storage Rooms The Design Consultant shall make provisions for a custodial supply storage room of 100 ft2 minimum in every building of 40,000 ft2 or larger. The supply room shall be located on the ground floor near the service/freight elevator. The supply storage room must accommodate storage, wash room, locker, and lunch area for the custodians. A minimum of 60 linear ft of shelves having a minimum width of 12 in. shall be provided on at least one wall. The entry door shall be 42 in. to accommodate larger floor-cleaning equipment.
