ELMS User Group Meeting Date: July 9, 2007 NOTES Summary: Agenda: Discussion on OIT training at the College of Education and faculty-tofaculty demonstrations. Workshops that were suggested to be held here at the College of Education are the Introduction to Blackboard and the open workshops for instructors that are offered over in OIT. If you want to sign up for courses that are offered at OIT go to http://www.training.umd.edu/ Click class catalog Then click OIT institute for instructional technology. The courses offered by OIT are as follows: - IIT-ELMS Assessment and Evaluation in Blackboard - IIT-ELMS Blackboard Bootcamp (2 days) - IIT-ELMS Collaboration and Communication in Blackboard - IIT-ELMS Course Management in Blackboard - IIT-ELMS Managing Course Content/Content Collection in Blackboard - IIT-ELMS Open Workshops for Instructors - IIT-ELMS, Getting Started with Blackboard Academic Suite Faculty who are sending email to ELMS@umd.edu should CC: coe-webservices@umd.edu so that Web Services are a front line support for faculty. In addition, this will also let Web Services know how well ELMS is working. Suggestions: George MacReady suggested that we should have a workshop on Wimba. Wimba is an audio and visual presentation tool, which can be added on to blackboard. This allows professors use a 'virtual classroom,' and is especially helpful for distance learning applications. The best person to contact about this in OIT is Jun Yang. Having a general meeting where Web Services explains their services to faculty and OIT explains what services they have to offer for faculty. Examples and demonstrations before getting into the full Blackboard environment to show faculty what ELMS can really do. Having a mixed model of using Blackboard, where the teaching is online and face-to-face also. Blackboard is more of a communication and distribution tool. Suggested Speakers for faculty-to-faculty demonstrations: Alvestad, Kathy Berham, Amy Corninger, Bob Egel, Andy Slater, Wayne Having a meeting with the Dean and Chairs of the departments to figure out a list of people that are using blackboard actively in their courses. Next meeting or demo in August or September.
