Marking the Big 5 Questionnaire
To evaluate the questionnaire you need to score your responses. For those questions
marked with (+) just add the score you have given in response to the question. For those
questions marked with (-) you need to reverse score the answer. This means that you
reverse the order of the values given to those questions (a 5 becomes 1 and the 1 becomes
5).
Calculate your total on each of the dimensions and divide your total by the number of
items. You can then compare your responses to the norms of other people who have
answered these questions. If your score is one standard deviation from the mean score, it
indicates that you have answered the question significantly differently than the general
population and you would be considered to be high or low on this scale. The further you
are from the mean the more your score deviates from the general population.
