The program is focused on multidisciplinary research efforts where more than one traditional discipline interacts to provide rapid advances in scientific areas of interest to the DoD. DoD's basic research program invests broadly in many specific fields to ensure that it has early cognizance of new scientific knowledge. Objective: To establish a scientific foundation for modeling adversarial cognitive states and decision-making processes, identify information metrics for driving cognitive state change by deception, and create an integrated framework of information composition and projection to manipulate adversaries' cognitive state and decision-making process that provides a future basis for active cyber defense. Proposals are due August 1, 2016. For more information, visit Grants.gov Documenting Endangered Languages National Science Foundation (NSF); This funding partnership between the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) supports projects to develop and advance knowledge concerning endangered human languages. Made urgent by the imminent death of roughly half of the approximately 7000 currently used languages, this effort aims to exploit advances in information technology to build computational infrastructure for endangered language research. The program supports projects that contribute to data management and archiving, and to the development of the next generation of researchers. Funding can support fieldwork and other activities relevant to the digital recording, documenting, and archiving of endangered languages, including the preparation of lexicons, grammars, text samples, and databases. Proposals are due September 15, 2016. For more information, visit Grants.gov Science of Science and Innovation Policy National Science Foundation (NSF); The Science of Science Innovation Policy (SciSIP) program supports research designed to advance the scientific basis of science and innovation policy. The program funds research to develop models, analytical tools, data and metrics that can be applied in the science policy decision making process and concern the use and allocation of scarce scientific resources. For example, research proposals may develop behavioral and analytical conceptualizations, frameworks or models that have applications across the broad array of science and innovation policy challenges. Proposals may also develop methodologies to analyze science, technology and innovation data, and to usefully convey that information to a variety of audiences. Proposals that create and improve science, engineering and innovation data, including the design of new metrics and indicators, particularly proposals that demonstrate the viability of collecting and analyzing data on knowledge generation and innovation in organizations, are encouraged.
