Laurie Delgado of Burt, Hill originally presented three interior color palette schemes (Sunset, Water and Autumn), and incorporated the University’s two favorites into a new scheme entitled Sunset on the Water, which incorporates both warmer and cooler tones. 2. Burt, Hill intends to break up the long corridors with curving elements. 3. The student dining area would have a blue and gold color scheme with maroon elements. 4. Create visual separation between the student dining area and main circulation. 5. Bamboo, terrazzo, linoleum and carpet made of recycled fibers are just some of the sustainable products that Burt, Hill is proposing to incorporate into the interior finishes. 6. A lighter yellow terrazzo with beige undertones was decided upon by the committee. 7. A darker color quarter-turned modular carpeting system with an abstract leaf pattern was agreed to. 212 East Washington Avenue | Suite 101 | Madison, Wisconsin 53703 | Phone 608.441.2575 | Fax 608.441.2580 www.brayarch.com UWEC New Student Union Review of Interior Finishes August 5, 2010 Page 2 of 3 8. In reviewing the ballroom finishes, the overall colors and concepts were well received, but the locations of the blue carpet and gold carpet were revised due to food service traffic patterns. In addition, the outer carpet border was determined to be changed to blue, with the next border to be gold. The woven window shades are to have a blackout liner to maximize the flexibility of the space. Discussing the room partitions finishes, the committee hopes to achieve a more seamless look between the perimeter wall and room partitions. 9. While several types of wood flooring products were discussed, it was decided that installing a traditional wood or gymnasium-type flooring system in the large ballroom would be the committee’s preference, given that it can be refinished three to four times before it would need to be replaced. 10. Flooring options for the smaller ballroom were discussed. It was determined that this room will receive carpeting, with a possibility to change this to wood in the future depending on the final bid. 11. The cost and long-term maintenance aspects of terrazzo and linoleum were discussed. The committee’s strong first choice would be terrazzo, but were cognizant of the materials high cost in relationship to linoleum. DSF project manager Russ Van Gilder noted that terrazzo tile and color concrete were also two acceptable options to consider. David Hatton of Burt, Hill stated that if a linoleum flooring product was selected, it would still be possible to install a terrazzo floor in the future. 12. In discussing restroom accessories, the University would like to have manual soap dispensers that discharge into each sink. The Dyson hand dryers will remain in the main restrooms, with a paper towel dispenser to be installed in the Unisex restrooms. 13. The composition of the fireplace was discussed, and it was tentatively decided that an existing piece of art in the current student center or something similar will be displayed on the mantle. 14. The committee decided that the bamboo banquettes should be factory finished, which would be a lighter stain than the cherry finish originally discussed. 15. The tile in the Servery will be a combination of glass tile elements, such as bubble tile in a wave pattern, and matte tiles around the surround of the pizza oven. The ceilings will be a combination of black acoustical ceiling tiles, which will not show stains and will recess into the background, and wood patterned metal tiles. 16. In discussing the finishes for the Cabin, it was suggested that an area rug be staged in front of the fireplace to create a grouping of both new and existing furniture that could be reupholstered. 17. The Cabin walls will be a combination of painted drywall and reclaimed wood, while the floors were suggested to be a vinyl flooring product that simulates the look of wood plank floor. 18. The column in the Cabin will have a wood base, cladded in glass and lit from within. 19. The bar casework in the Cabin will be plastic laminate, with a quartz countertop. In discussing the accent resin panels, it was suggested by Burt, Hill to use the same reed pattern that will be used elsewhere in the project. 20. It was decided that the Multipurpose Room’s flooring will be sheet carpet throughout the space. Interior finishes such as bamboo, dark blue stage curtain, tied metal perforated steel ceiling will be used in this space. 21. Student work area will have one type of carpet for both the open area and offices. 22. The Delany carpeting was decided to be a pattern called Socialite Mia, as it related to the Arts and Crafts forms of the adjacent windows. The exact color is yet to be determined. 23. Lounges (Diversity, Non-Traditional and Media) The carpet in the media room will be blue and have a more modern pattern than the other two lounges. The non-traditional and diversity lounges will have the more traditional branches pattern. Meeting Rooms: It was decided that Room 211 is to be a fun, non-traditional meeting space in terms of its finishes. 25. Honoring President Davies through various naming opportunities was discussed. One idea was to name the site of the former student center and future commons after him. Susan Harrison stated that she has been approached by various parties expressing their strongly held view that the Davies name be honored in a manner appropriate to his support and dedication to student life. Many alumni feel that naming the commons would not be equivalent to where students actually reside. She expressed the view that given that the students are paying for this facility, they should be the ones who should ultimately make the decision as to the new building’s future name. 26. 328 and 310b these two rooms will have the same carpeting, but will be different from the rest of the meeting rooms on the third floor. 27. 310b and 320a will have a weave tile #59434 called “Pure Indigo”. All other meeting rooms will have a floor tile called “Obsession”. 28. Administration carpeting was not decided upon at this meeting. *** The above information is the interpretation of the meeting activities and comments; and should be reviewed by all attendees.
