Steps to a Successful Registration
Step 1: Check your email for your degree audit and print it out. MAKE SURE YOU CLICK
ON “UNBLOCK CONTENT”. Then do the following:
1. Find your registration time at the top. You must see your adviser and get your PAC BEFORE
that time.
2. Check your degree audit. Is your major and/or minor correct? If not, go to the
department of the major or minor to which you want to change. Information about the
change of major process is found at: http://www.uwec.edu/registrar/ChgofMajor/index.htm
You will need a “what if degree audit.”
Question # 1: What if I deleted the message before I printed it?
Answer: You can obtain a new degree audit and check your registration time
through “MyBlugold.” From the UW-Eau Claire homepage you will find
“MyBlugold” under “Current Students.” Click on “My Info.” You will
find links to “Registration time and holds” and “Degree audits, transcripts,
etc.”
Question # 2: What if I am undeclared or am considering another major?
Answer: You can request a “What-if degree audit” through “MyBlugold.” The
computer will then “pretend” you are whatever major you choose. The
degree audit will be emailed to you.
Step 2: Check for any “ Registration holds” through “MyBlugold.”
From “My Info” click on “Registration Time and holds.” This is usually a transcript that has not
been received or a payment that has not been made.
Step 3: Check the on-line Class Schedule Bulletin or Course Searching to see what is offered
Use the “Quick links” menu within “My Blugold” to find “Course Searching.”
Searching:
 Make sure the term you want is selected and that “open” or “all” courses is selected, depending
on which you want.
 You can just pick a department or fill in a particular course or course level.
 You can search by G.E. category, foreign culture, time of day, instructor, etc.
How to use the list of courses generated:
 At the top of the list of courses you generate will be a summary of your inquiry—check to see
that you got what you wanted!
 Clicking on the “+” will expand the selection to include information on G.E. category and other
curricular attributes, drop/withdrawal dates, start dates for short courses, total number of seats
in the course.
 Clicking on either the course number or the “P” for prerequisite will take you to the course
schedule. This will give you more information about the course, including what the prerequisite
is, restrictions, etc. This is really important to look at prior to registering.
 The schedule bulletin description then links to the Catalogue description.
Step 4: Check the on-line class schedule bulletin for preassignments and permissions needed to
register.
Some courses require permission from the department or the instructor. It is often important to
get these early, even before you see your adviser. The most common courses requiring
prerequisites include: French 102, 201 and 202; Spanish 102, 201, 202; English 112.

Step 5: Make an appointment with an adviser.
Do this way ahead of your appointment time, especially if you are undeclared.
Step 6: Review your degree audit.
Highlight anything you don’t understand so you can ask your adviser about these requirements.
Step 7: Select a long list of courses you might take.
1. Consult the General Education list available on the web at:
http://www.uwec.edu/advising/Students/index.htm
2. Check for prerequisites and for sequencing of courses within your major.
3. Read the Catalogue descriptions.
 Hint—Do not waste time making out your “ideal” schedule. Wait until closer to your
registration time to see what is open.
Step 8: Meet with your adviser: Obtain and keep your PAC (Personal Advising Code).
Step 9: Pay $100 deposit and make sure your current semester’s bill is paid.
You must pay a $100 deposit before you register. This is done at the Cashier’s Office, Schofield
108. This goes toward you next semester’s tuition. If you wish to go to winterim, you must pay a
separate $100 deposit.
Note: If you cannot pay the $100 and you have financial aid, check with the Financial Aid
Office to see if you are eligible for a one-time waiver.
Step 10: Check periodically to see if your course selections close.
If a course closes it is best to get on a waiting list or get an overload right away.
Step 11: Register
1. Register at your appointed time (or 15 minutes before).
Tips:
 Remember to submit one course at a time (click on “submit request”). Don’t wait to
submit them all at once, or courses could close.
 If you need to drop a course and add another, make sure you do them at the same time; it
will not drop you unless the add is successful.
2. Request a printed copy of your schedule be sent to your email account.
3. If you are unable to register at that time, you may give a list of courses to the Registration
Office and they will register you.
Step 12: Request a new degree audit.
Once you have registered, request a new degree audit to make certain that the courses you chose
are meeting the requirements you thought they would.
Step 13: Persistence pays off.
If you do not get the schedule you want, keep checking, especially during semester break. It is

Students who are persistent generally get an acceptable schedule.
Step 14: Check your schedule once grades come out.
Make certain that your second semester schedule is still appropriate. In general, at least a C is
expected in a prerequisite class.
