receives the ID Hall of Fame Award

During the ID People Awards ceremony on November 18 at the seventh ID WORLD
International Congress in Milan, tribute was paid to an individual who epitomized the
spirit of enterprise and leadership throughout his career in the auto ID community.
This year, the ID Hall of Fame Award was presented to Professor Bo Gustafson,
faculty member of the Department of Astronomy at the University of Florida, Director
for the university’s Laboratory for Astrophysics. He is also Founder and President of
DataGrid, which has developed small and easy to use GPS/GNSS systems with
powerful features for cadastral surveying, land administration, and GIS applications.
“We are delighted to announce that Professor Bo Gustafson has been inducted into
the ID Hall of Fame,” said Sophie B. de la Giroday, President of Wise Media. “Not
only do we feel he is an accomplished scientist, but he is also a true leader, and
motivated by what we believe should be the ultimate purpose of all enterprises: the
effort to create a better world.”
Bo Gustafson and his team at DataGrid, along with the United Nations and the World
Bank, has been active in assisting and training the Ugandan Government in Africa in
identifying who owns what land and where – and for what purpose. For Uganda this
effort is very important seeing as the country has a predominantly agricultural
economy and this impacts on how land occupancy should be configured to promote
agricultural and sustainable development. In principle this would have required a
large work force with experts from outside. Gustafson therefore developed a simple,
yet effective GPS-based technology operable by a locally trained workforce and
equitable to the funds made available by the World Bank. It was also designed with
the future in mind - to provide an ongoing formula of technology, expertise and
training so local teams could maintain and progress the program nationwide.

leaders, innovators and pioneering adopters who have distinguished themselves by
