Classified Senate Meeting September 14, 2011, 1:30-2:30pm, L303 Minutes Members Present: Laurie Pownall (President), Myaisha O’Ray (Treasurer), Leigh Ann Rogers (Secretary), Area Reps (Chou Chasengnou, Shirley Murillo, Barbara Nuss, Eva Rhodes, Shelly Charron, and April Robinson). Welcome/GreetingLaurie Pownall General Information: a. Laurie meets once a month with the District Board and Executive Counsel and she will disseminate information to our group. b. Waiting for the campus goals from Debbie Travis to see what we can do to help work towards those goals (these came from the planning summit). c. Laurie spoke with Debbie regarding the mentorship program and D2L for classified. Also working with Debbie on having small recognitions for classified who go above and beyond. d. Explanation of what the purpose is for the area representatives and how the flow of information will work. e. We will need to have sub-committees to accomplish the things that we need to get done. 2. Classified Introductions- Laurie Pownall 3. Mentorship Program Update/Discussion- Laurie Pownall a. New employee packet seems to be important and the mentorship program information should be included in the information. b. Debbie Travis is looking into whether the mentorship program should be included in Shared Governance. c. Comment: Maybe the department of the new person should be responsible for pairing up people for mentorship relationships. d. Laurie will be looking into how the academic senate does their program. e. Comment: Some departments may not be willing to work with and/or mentor a new employee. f. Comment: In each area there needs to be some information provided to employees to let them know who works where and what time, just in case there is no one in the office and an employee needs help. g. Comment: What about the other campuses? How do they do it? ---Will look into this… 4. Professional Development Myaisha O’Ray Flex Day for Classified 2011 o Provided information about the college and additional information such as health, education, funding, shared governance. PD Committee has not met yet for this academic year. There is an opening for the Classified Co-Chair for this committee. 5. Classified Representative Reports- No reports this time… Other Information discussed: There is a social worker/psychologist that works on campus. Students need to be screened by the Counselors, who will then make the referrals. Some areas on campus seem unsafe at night because there is only one employee in the area. Sometimes campus police is not available…looking into this issue. o Is there a quick way to locate a person’s office/area, not using outlook? New employee packet: maybe HR should be in charge of this… Area rep duty clarification: discussion on how to disseminate the meeting information to the various areas. Notes will come from Leigh Ann and then reps can send to their specific areas. Classified Retreat name was changed to the Classified Professional Development Day. At the CCIC and Union Board meeting, there was discussion around having retreats off-campus again. Nothing is set in stone about this yet. Talk about the Aramark Task Force for feedback.
