Salford City Council - Record of Decision (CABINET)
I, Councillor Merry, Leader of the Council, confirm that, in exercise of the powers
conferred on it in accordance with the Scheme of Delegation of the Council, the Cabinet
has approved the designation of Clifton Country Park as a Local Nature Reserve.
The reasons are as follows: Local Nature Reserves:
•
Provide green spaces within the urban environment for people to relax and enjoy
and help to make the places where we live and work healthier and less stressful.
•
Help to increase peoples awareness and enjoyment of the natural environment
through greater involvement.
•
Provide an ideal environment and the support for people to learn and study nature.
•
Build relationships between Local Authorities, national and local conservation
bodies and local people
•
Protect wildlife habitats and natural features and contribute to biodiversity.
•
Make it possible to apply by-laws, which can help in managing protected sites.
•
Help to increase peoples awareness and enjoyment of the natural environment
through greater involvement.
Options considered and rejected: Not to proceed.
Assessment of risk: Not applicable.
The source of funding is English Nature’s Wildspaces programme with match funding
contribution from the Environment Directorate.
Legal advice obtained: The Council’s Legal Services team has been consulted and will be
producing the required public notice regarding the declaration. .
Financial advice obtained: Not applicable.
