DIOCESE OF SALFORD INSTRUMENT OF GOVERNMENT: ROMAN CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOLS 1. The name of the new school is St Edmunds Roman Catholic Primary School, Little Hulton, Salford. 2. The school was founded by and is part of the Catholic Church. The school is to be conducted as a Catholic School in accordance with the canon law and teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, and in accordance with the Trust Deed of the Diocese of Salford and in particular: (a) religious education is to be in accordance with the teachings, doctrines, discipline and general and particular norms of the Catholic Church; (b) religious worship is to be in accordance with the rites, practices, discipline and liturgical norms of the Catholic Church; and at all times the school is to serve as a witness to the Catholic faith in Our Lord Jesus Christ. 3. The school is a voluntary aided school. 4. The name of the governing body is “The Governing Body of St Edmunds Roman Catholic Primary School, Salford.” 5. The governing body shall consist of: a) two parent governors; b) one LA governor; c) five staff governors; d) ten foundation governors, (the number of foundation governors must outnumber the other governors by two) of whom four shall, at the time of their appointment, be eligible for election, or appointment, as parent governors. 5. Total number of governors 18 6. Approval for the Instrument of Government for the above listed school has been sought and received from the Roman Catholic Schools Commission of the Salford Roman Catholic Diocese. 7. The foundation governors are appointed the Bishop of Salford (or any other person exercising Ordinary jurisdiction on his behalf). 8. (a) The holder of the following office shall be a foundation governor ex-officio: The parish priest of St Edmund and Lancashire Martyrs, Little Hulton. D:\98947557.doc (c) The person named in paragraph 6 above shall appoint a foundation governor to act in the place of the ex-officio foundation governor whose governorship derives from the office named in (a) above, in the event that that ex-officio foundation governor is unable or unwilling to act as a foundation governor, or there is a vacancy in the office by virtue of which his governorship exists. The person named in paragraph 6 above is also entitled to request the removal of any ex-officio foundation governor and to appoint a substitute. . 9. This instrument comes into effect on 1st December 2008. 10. A copy of this instrument must be supplied to every member of the governing body (and the head teacher if not a governor) any trustees and to the Diocese of Salford. 11. This instrument was made by order of Salford Local Education Authority on the 13th November 2008.
