Request for Increase in Hackney Carriage Fares
In accordance with the terms of Section 65, Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions)
Act 1976, fares for Hackney Carriages are fixed and varied by the local authority, the most
recent variation coming into effect on 12th November 2001.
A request has been received from the Salford Hackney Trade for an increase in fares. The
grounds for the request is in order to counter the increased costs incurred by Hackney
Drivers and Proprietors in the general running of their vehicles, (fuel, insurance and other
costs).
The proposed increase is as follows:Current Tariff one:
Proposed Tariff one:
a) If the distance does not exceed 480 yds.
(439 mtrs) for the whole distance £1.30
a) If the distance does not exceed
480 yds. (439 mtrs) for whole
distance £1.50
b) If the distance exceeds 480 yds (439 mtrs)
for the first 480 yds ………….. £1.30
b) If the distance exceeds 480 yds.
(439 mtrs), for the first
480 yds ……………… £1.50
c) For each subsequent 288 yds (263 mtrs)
or part thereof ……………………. 20p.
c) For each subsequent 288 yds
(263 mtrs) or part thereof …. 20p.
(remains the same)
The flag fall distances remain the same for all rates, but the minimum fare for passengers is
increased by 20p per journey for Tariff one, plus a further 20% (30p.) for trariff two.
(Tariff two consists of journeys between 11pm and 5am the following day).
All other rates are unchanged. Members are asked to also consider an additional extra rate of
£10 for a soiling charge.
If Members approve the increase, it is proposed that they shall become operative
immediately after the expiry of the 14 day period of notice for objection. If any objections
are received then arrangements will be made for consideration of those objections at the
soonest possible meeting of the Licensing Regulatory Panel after the 14 day objection
period.
