Meditation and Contemplative Club
Article I
Name:
Section 1:
Club.
This organization shall be known as the Meditation and Contemplative
Article II
Purpose:
Section 1:
The purpose of this club is to start a group that will engage whomever
joins in the practice of meditation, whether they are a beginner or an
expert. The club will discuss the practice of meditation through experience
or various texts and then practice a period of meditation. After the
meditation, we will talk about our experiences. This club is geared
towards the students and staff of Westfield State University who wish to
have a better understanding of themselves and the practice of meditation.
Article III
Membership:

Membership shall be open to all full-time and part-time undergraduate
students of Westfield State University who have paid their student
activities fee for the current academic semester.
Members are considered to be active if they attend and participate in 33%
of the meetings.
Article IV
Officers:
Section 1:
The officers of the club will be as follows: President, Vice President, and
Treasurer

The President is responsible for, but not limited to, making sure our
meeting place is open and for facilitating the means for a healthy
conversation. They will also be responsible for running the meetings.
The Vice President is responsible for, but not limited to, helping the
President facilitate conversation and to help the President come up with
different ideas for the club.
The Treasurer is responsible for, but not limited to, handling money,
keeping track of funds, and holding fundraisers.
The officers will be selected at the end of an academic year.
Any Westfield State University student that is a member of the Meditation
and Contemplative Club may hold office.
The term office for each officer is one academic year.
Article V
Advisors:

The advisor will be nominated by the officers, and will become the
advisor if there is a majority vote of the members.
The duties of the Advisor are to help the president by giving guidance to
how the Meditation and Contemplative Club should be ran. The advisor is
encouraged to have meditation experience, but does not need to have any.
Article VI

Any member can nominate another member one (1) week before the
election by speaking their name and having a second.
The votes will be cast on a piece of paper, and a non-officer will be
appointed to tally the votes.
No election may be held if there is not a quorum of fifty percent (50%) of
the club members plus one (1) present at the meeting.
In the result of a tie, there will be a re-vote between those two (2) people.
If the vote remains a tie, those people will discuss amongst themselves
who would benefit the Meditation and Contemplative Club in certain
positions. They will decide themselves.
Article VII
Meetings:
Section 1:
This Meditation and Contemplative Club will meet no less than once (1)
per week.

In the event that the advisor cannot make it to a meeting, the officers may
hold the meeting themselves. They may also hold a separate meeting if
they find that a separate meeting is needed to discuss the growth of the
club.
Any of the officers, including the advisor, can call a special meeting if
they feel it is needed.
Article VIII
Vacancies:

In the event that an officer or advisor leaves or resigns, the Meditation and
Contemplative Club will hold an emergency nomination and election
voted on by the members of the club.
Article IX
Amending Procedure:
Section 1:
This constitution may be amended by a (number of people required to be
amended {i.e. two-thirds}) majority vote of the voting members of the
club and if approved by the Rules and Regulations committee of the
Student Government Association.
Article X
Removal from office:

Before the Meditation and Contemplative Club may remove an officer
from their duties, the members must speak to the officers about their
issues and try to resolve the problems peacefully. If peace cannot be
achieved, then a member is able to motion to impeach an officer. If there
is over a fifty percent (50%) vote, then that officer will no longer be an
officer.
Before the Meditation and Contemplative Club may remove an advisor,
the members shall speak to the officers about their issues, then the officer
will communicate the club’s issues with the advisor and see if they will
change. If the advisor fails to comply, there will be a vote as to whether or
not they will be impeached. If there is a fifty percent (50%) vote, then the
advisor will no longer be one.
