EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
This is an annual report submitted to inform members of the results of the
annual Register of Electors canvass for each Ward in the City. The current
register was published on 1 December 2009, and is in force from 1
December 2009 to 30 November 2010

The compilation of the Register of Electors has now been completed and
shown below in wards is the comparison between registers published on the 5
November 2008 and 1 December 2009.

There has been a significant decrease in the electorate in Barton, Little
Hulton, Broughton, Langworthy, Irwell Riverside, Claremont and Weaste and
Seedley Wards, together with a significant increase in the Cadishead and
Ordsall Wards.
Reasons for the changes in electorate in the above wards are as
follows:

1.1
Cadishead Ward
The electorate has increased by 94. The majority of the increase is in polling
district AF, which can be attributed to new occupants moving into the area.
In AF there have been new electors added to Canal House, Rixtonleys Drive,
Irlam and at Lock House, Rixtonleys Drive, Irlam.
1.2
Barton Ward
The electorate has decreased by 310. The majority of the decrease is in
polling districts DB, DC and DD, and can be attributed to a combination of the
3 year non responders deletion process, (52 electors) which was undertaken
for the first time this year, together with a significant amount of empty
properties in the DB and DC Polling Districts (178 and 182 respectively).
1.3
Little Hulton Ward
The electorate has decreased by 226. The majority of the decrease is in
polling districts LA, LB, LC, and LG, this can be attributed to a large number of
boarded properties,(74,76,85 and 69 respectively) together with the 3 year
non responders (27 electors) and natural movement within the area.
1.4
Broughton Ward
The electorate has decreased by 193. The majority of the decrease is in
polling districts OA, OD, OH and can be attributed to properties being
demolished.
Within polling district OA, properties on Dukes Street, Wheaters Street and
Camp Street have been demolished.
Within polling district OD, properties on Lord Street have been demolished
Within polling district OH, properties on Great Cheetham Street West have
been demolished.
In addition, there are a significant number of electors who were deleted under
the 3 year non responders’ process (119).
1.5
Ordsall Ward
The electorate has increased by 123. The majority of the increase is within
polling district PF and can be attributed to new builds, Spectrum Apartments,

Abito Apartments, Fresh Apartments and the Bailey which in the main are fully
occupied, together with people moving into the area and registering.
1.6
Langworthy Ward
The electorate has decreased by 114. The majority of the decrease is in
polling district QH and can be attributed to the student population.
Students living at Eddie Coleman Court and John Lester Court are written to
in an attempt to identify their nationality, and the majority of those returned
were from students who were from non European / non Commonwealth
Countries and therefore were not eligible to register.
1.7
Irwell Riverside Ward
The electorate has decreased by 169. Again this is due to the considerable
number of student population residing within the ward (Bramall Court;
Matthias Court; Castle Irwell; Constantine Court; Horlock Court; and IQ
Student Quarter), together with a combination of electors who were deleted
under the 3 year non responder process (70).
1.8
Claremont Ward
The electorate has decreased by 117. The majority of the decrease is in
polling districts SA and SD. There is no obvious reason identifiable for this
decrease and can only be attributed to people leaving the area together with
30 electors deleted under the 3 year non responder’s process.
1.9
Weaste and Seedley Ward
The electorate has decreased by 149, and can be attributed to a combination
of 33 electors deleted under the 3 year non responder’s process, together
with a significant number of empty properties in TA, TD and TF (99, 137, and
99 respectively) and natural movement within the ward.
