This fund is for 3 Super output areas within the Winton Ward – Brookhouse, New Lane and Westwood Park.
The Board has now finally agreed the main thrust of schemes for this year (06/07)
1. Volunteer campaign for Winton, including advertising for volunteers to work with young people. This scheme includes formal youth work
support being given to voluntary youth groups and includes training opportunities for volunteers along with money for CRB checks and
group development work. This scheme is now up and running.
2. A detached youth team (1 full time and 2 part time workers) for the Winton Ward to be locally directed by the Youth Work Manager for
the area (Danny Mulvihill). This is additional provision for the area. Recruitment is taking place.
3. A Rugby League Development Officer employed by Salford Reds. This Officer has been working with local schools and groups in
Winton successfully over recent months.
4. A Neighbourhood Development Officer to be based within the Neighbourhood Management Team to manage and monitor the SSCF
programme along with increasing community involvement in the SO areas. Andrea Parker has now been appointed to this position. A
start date is to be agreed.
5. CCTV for Brookhouse and Westwood Park. These schemes are now awaiting the tendering process.
6. Landscaping the area around Buckthorn Lane.
7. A sign for Brookhouse Community Centre. This will shortly be completed.
4
8. Some landscaping to the side of Brookhouse Community Centre. Residents are finalising arrangements with Environmental Services.
9. Some extra Christmas lights for Winton. These were purchased and put up this year.
10. A storage container for Winton Wanderers Youth Group. This is awaiting planning permission.
11. Fencing and security works for the low rise flats in the New Lane area. This work is ongoing.
12. A security scheme for the flats on Verdun Lane.
13. Money to help prevent inappropriate motorbike use. SSCF funding contributed to a city wide publicity campaign to try and prevent
parents from buying motorbikes as Christmas presents. Sites that could benefit from physical measures are currently being agreed.
14. Money to turn the old Warden’s house on Brookhouse into a community building that will allow PCSOs and Housing Officers etc to run
surgeries. Site visit is taking place on 12th Jan to agree the final works for this.
There are also a number of proposals for other Environmental Schemes which will mainly commence in 2007/08
Patricroft and Florence St areas.
We are currently working with Irwell Valley on ways in which to improve the above areas, in which they are a major stockholder. This is a multi
agency approach with all the RSLs in the area, New Prospect and Housing and Planning. In addition, Environment Directorate along with
Urban Vision and GMP have also been involved.
Irwell Valley have expressed their wish to commit to the above areas and to improve services to residents. Work is currently ongoing on:


The development of a Streetscene agreement for residents, who will be advised of the exact services that they expect to receive from
Env Directorate and UV. This work has been largely completed.
A common approach by all housing providers in terms of: responses to Anti Social Behaviour, Lettings Standards and estate
management practices such as walkabouts etc. We are also looking at proposing a local lettings policy, which can be agreed with
residents for the area, which will be adhered to by all parties.
It is anticipated that the Residents Group will have a major role to play in monitoring this local arrangement.
Housing providers (led by Matt Jones from New Prospect) have now reached agreement on the above and a further meeting to finalise the
position will be held soon.
