The Einstein : Lesson plan one unit electricity and magnetism objective c2bcd July 13th 2010 4 Time Teacher Directed Activities: How will you aid students in constructing meaning of new concepts? How will you introduce/model new skills or procedures? 1. What types of material would work as conductors? 2. How do you know that the electricity is flowing? 3. What can you do to show that electricity is flowing? 4. Can you suggest any other materials that would carry a current in this series? Time 2 5 E’s 3 DTA Non Guided to Guided Practice Focusing Student Attention DTA 5 All Models Evaluati on CLOSING Elaboration 5 E’s 4 Assess ment HEART OF THE LESSON Time DTA 2. Students will construct closed circuits in order to produce measurable affects. Students will design a path of an electrical circuit in order to light bulb. Warm-Up: How will you engage students in learning? How will you connect the lesson to their prior knowledge? 1. Students will match light bulb, wires, battery, and switch with appropriate symbols used to diagram electrical circuits. 2. (5-7) minutes, may or may not work with partner Explanation 5 E’s 2 Introductory and/or Developmental Activities 3 Exploration Time 1. Independent Activities and/or Meaningful-Use Tasks Engagement OPENING Time DAILY LESSON PLANNER indicates part of every lesson Statement of Objective: What should students know and do 1 5 E’s 1 DTA as a result of the lesson? Teacher-Monitored Activities: What will students do together to use new concepts or skills? How will you assist students in this process? 1. Students will construct a single series circuit loop with preorganized materials, without guidance. 2. Each group will give a brief explanation, 3. Guided Practice. 4. Use different materials to demonstrate conduction, insulator, to complete a closed circuit. 5. Explain why certain materials complete a closed circuit: conductors, insulators, function of a switch, movement of electrons through the wires Extension, Refinement, and Practice Activities: What opportunities will students have to use the new skills and concepts in a meaningful way? How will students expand and solidify their understanding of the concept and apply it to a real-world situation? How will students demonstrate their mastery of the essential learning outcomes? 1. Students will work in small groups or pairs to design closed circuits with a switch. 2. Students must record their circuit on an index card by drawing a diagram using the appropriate symbols (wire)____, (switch) ._. (Light Bulb)II 3. SEE ATTACHED FOR CORRECT SYMBOLS Ongoing Assessment: How will you monitor student progress throughout the lesson? I will monitor student’s progress throughout the lesson by verifying their results for each step of their work. Culminating Assessment: How will you ensure that all students have mastered the identified learning indicators? How will you assess their learning? The Einstein : Lesson plan one unit electricity and magnetism objective c2bcd July 13th 2010 Teacher will assess students learning by their complete assignments, answering questions correctly, and telling the teacher what they learned today. Students pass their index card w/diagram to a different group; that group must construct the diagramed closed/open circuit and explain the diagram on a separate index card. Time 6 All Models Closure Activities: Through this teacher-guided activity, how will you assist students in reflecting upon what they learned today and preparing for tomorrow’s lesson? What homework will be assigned to help students practice, prepare, or elaborate on a concept or skill taught? Closure & Homework Closure: I will ask the students what they have learned and how they can apply it to their own lives. Home work: 1. List five circuits that you have at home. DAILY LESSON PLANNER - RESOURCE PLANNER Text Resources How will various forms of text (e.g., print, video, etc.) be used to help learners develop a deeper understanding of the key concepts and skills? What text resources can be utilized to assist learners in enhancing literary experiences? Students can access the in-class media center, to gain a deeper understanding of circuits. (Discovery Education video The Magic School Bus Gets Charged.) Hands-On Experiences and/or Manipulative Usage What hands-on experiences and/or manipulatives will be used to help students develop an understanding of key skills and processes for investigation? Technology Resources How can the use of technology enhance the learning experience? What tools may be accessed to further develop students’ skills in using technology as an integrated part of their learning? 1. Computer center will be used for students who complete the design early. Individualized Instruction How will the lesson need to be adapted for students with special needs (i.e., special education, talented and gifted, ESOL/language minority)? In what ways will you vary the modalities of learning to ensure that ALL students have an opportunity to learn? Cooperative GroupWhat cooperative structures will facilitate learning? How will students be involved in-group processing? How will students work with one another during the unit? 1. The students will be allowed to work in cooperative groups during all class work activity. 2. They will do all lab work ingroup settings. Material Resources what materials will need to be prepared before the lesson in order to ensure the lesson goes smoothly? Writing Opportunities How will students have an opportunity to further extend their thinking through writing? 1. Students will have opportunities to write and to share what they have written by doing the warm up activity. 2. The students will have the opportunity to write while taking the written assessment. 3. The student will have opportunity to write while doing the homework assignments. Other Planning Considerations What else should be considered when planning and delivering this lesson? What reminders should you record for yourself? What are the time constraints and considerations for this lesson? The Einstein : Lesson plan one unit electricity and magnetism objective c2bcd July 13th 2010 1. The graphics on the index cards and the hands-on will help students develop an understanding of key processes. 1. I will arrange seating to pair regular education students with ESOL students to assist with language. 2. I will challenge the students with questions for higher or lower order thinking skills. 3. I will work in small groups for students who need extra help. 1. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. Light bulb Wires Switch Battery (C) Paper clips Cardboard Cup of water Index cards 1. My ‘B’ day mod has a large number of students. I will have to set up more lab stations.
