An Accessible Webpage: A Title III Project Dr. Diane Finley Department of Psychology Prince George’s Community College AAFACT 2003 The Title III Project In 2002, I created a webpage for use by General Psychology students. It contains content information, weblinks, career information, APA Style information and specific information for PGCC students. http://academic.pgcc.edu/~dfinley In 2003, the goal is to make this webpage (and my homepage) compliant with Section 508 of the Americans With Disabilities Act. What is Accessibility? It is “making allowances for characteristics a person cannot readily change.” (Clark, 2003) In terms of webpages, accessibility means designing pages that the visually impaired and hearing impaired can utilize fully. Why Worry About Accessibility? One, it’s the law, specifically Section 508 of the Americans with Disability Act. Two, millions of people have disabilities that interfere with full usages of the internet. What is the big issue? Here is an example of a page that is not accessible to someone with low vision.
