The Title III Project
In 2002, I created a webpage for use by
General Psychology students. It contains
content information, weblinks, career
information, APA Style information and
specific information for PGCC students.

 In 2003, the goal is to make this webpage
(and my homepage) compliant with Section
508 of the Americans With Disabilities Act.

What is Accessibility?


It is “making allowances for
characteristics a person cannot readily
change.” (Clark, 2003)
In terms of webpages, accessibility
means designing pages that the
visually impaired and hearing impaired
can utilize fully.
Why Worry About Accessibility?


One, it’s the law, specifically Section
508 of the Americans with Disability
Act.
Two, millions of people have
disabilities that interfere with full
usages of the internet.
What is the big issue?

Here is an example of a page that is
not accessible to someone with low
vision.

What an Accessible Page Is NOT




It is not
It is not
It is not
effects
It is not
boring
colorless
devoid of animation or sound
reliant only on text
Issues to Consider in Making the
Webpage Accessible




Color and contrast – important for low
vision users
Inclusion of alternate text – enables
screen readers to “read” the page
Inclusion of equivalent alternatives for
multimedia
Table headers
