PURPOSE: Manage production/prepress operations and provide support for equipment and
systems used in Student Publications. Supervise, coordinate, and/or advise production, prepress,
online and circulation operations in Student Publications, and provide technical support for
department systems and equipment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Recruit, train, schedule, supervise and advise student
production and online staffs; assist in recruitment and training of, and provide advice and
technical support for, student news/editorial design staffs; coordinate production-related
workflow; manage all prepress operations; provide routine monitoring and maintenance to
resolve hardware and software problems for department systems, provide technical support for
equipment, and, in conjunction with the UTA Office of Information Technology, provide inoffice support for computers and systems; serve as liaison with UTA and contract printers and
other vendors; seek ways to increase revenue-producing potential (including, as needed,
designing and producing materials); keep abreast of technological developments related to
department operations; advise department director on equipment purchases, upgrades, etc.; assist
in budget preparation and work within budget; maintain computer inventory and inventory of
production-related supplies; perform other duties as assigned, all while meeting deadlines.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
REPORTS TO: Director of Student Publications.
SUPERVISION: N/A
SUPERVISION-OTHER: Daily supervision of students in areas assigned to this position,
plus ongoing technical advice for students in all Student Publications operations.
REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education
REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: Bachelor's degree
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER:
REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Minimum two years experience in
publications prepress and/or systems supervision and maintenance. Excellent people
skills, speaking and writing proficiency; high degree of organization and attention to
detail; strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; ability to train and schedule staff
with little experience and high turnover rates. Experience in desktop publishing, graphic
design, typesetting, publications pagination and production, plus knowledge of website
design and maintenance.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Advanced knowledge of Macintosh computer systems, working
familiarity or ability to quickly learn systems used in all Student Publications operations; ability
to evaluate, install, troubleshoot, maintain computer systems in coordination with the UTA
Office of Information Technology. Computer-intensive; primarily afternoon/evening work
schedule, plus after-hours problem-solving availability. Specific job requirements or physical
location of positions allocated to this classification render the position security sensitive and
thereby subject to the provisions of Section 5 1.2 15 Texas Education Code.
