TITLE: Assistant Vice President for Student Governance
CODE: 0303
FUNCTION:
Serve as a senior member of the Student Affairs Leadership Team with primary
supervisory responsibilities for the areas of Student Governance and Organizations,
Multicultural Affairs, and Parent and Family Initiatives.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assure that the necessary services and programs are provided to students by supervising
Student Affairs departments that include Student Governance and Organizations,
Multicultural Affairs, and Parent and Family Initiatives. Provide vision for the
development and implementation of a comprehensive student life program. Assist in the
development of long and short term goals for the Division of Student Affairs. Monitor
budgets for all areas. Review policies and procedures; make recommendation for
changes and implement as appropriate. Provide supervision, training, guidance,
evaluation and recognition to staff members. Ensure professional development
opportunities. Must have knowledge of student development theories and practices.
Remain abreast of current issues in higher education, specifically in areas of direct
supervisory responsibility. Assist in the coordination of assessment initiatives. Conducts
program assessments in relation to students learning outcomes. Serve as a liaison for
Student Affairs to departmental units and community agencies, working collaboratively.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
REPORTS TO: VP Student Affairs
SUPERVISION: Student Governance and Organizations, Multicultural Affairs, and Parent and
Family Initiatives.
INTERNAL CONTROL:
Responsible for the design, execution, and effectiveness of a system of internal controls which
provides reasonable assurance that department operations are effective and efficient, department
assets are safeguarded, department financial information is reliable, and the department complies
with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation, use of manual dexterity, climbing of stairs,
lifting and moving.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's degree in Higher Educ Administration and Student Personnel or related field;
minimum of 10 years experience working with college students; demonstrated
competence in administration, student development; understand and articulate the role of
student affairs in higher education; budget planning and management; knowledge of
contractual and liability issues related to component areas; ability to handle multiple
work priorities, organize, and plan projects effectively; strong written and oral
communication; and establish positive working relationship with students, colleagues,
and peers. Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Specific job requirements or physical location of position allocated to this classification render
the position security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code
§51.215.
