PURPOSE: To provide supervisory skills for Transportation Services of the UT Arlington Police
Department including shuttle bus operations and security escort services. This position is
responsible for planning and supervising the work of employees performing various service
activities. Responsible for planning and supervising the work of semi-skilled and unskilled
employees performing various service activities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Maintains a preventive maintenance program for shuttle
buses and carts; schedules bus and cart repairs as needed; prepares various reports as needed;
processes special transportation requests and submits billing; plans and updates bus routes and
schedules as needed; instructs employees on job related duties; responsible for training,
counseling, and performance evaluations of direct reports; maintains work schedules and
employee time cards; fills in as operator of buses and carts as needed; interviews and hires
applicants; and performs related duties as required.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
REPORTS TO: The Transportation Supervisor reports to the Captain of Support
Services. Performance is rated by review of work that is completed and by personal
observation.
SUPERVISION: N/A
SUPERVISION-OTHER: General supervisory duties provided to drivers.
REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education
REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: High school graduation. Must have a valid Texas
Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER:
REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Five years of experience in the
operation of motor vehicle equipment, requiring a Commercial Driver's License (CDL),
including one year in a supervisory capacity.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must have valid Texas Commercial Driver's license (CDL) and be
able to pass a physical examination. Must be able to operate the UT Arlington shuttle buses and
carts. Knowledge and proper operating methods and required maintenance on shuttle buses and
carts; knowledge of traffic laws and vehicle equipment requirements; and knowledge of safety
precautions in vehicle operations. Working conditions involve exposure to outside weather
conditions, and requires the ability to sit and drive for extended periods. Alertness and careful
attention is required to avoid injury to self and others. Specific job requirements or physical
location of some positions allocated to this classification, may render the position security
sensitive, and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
