Air Conditioning Mechanic III
Purpose
Purpose:
To provide advanced skills at the journeyman/master level on repairing and
maintaining air conditioning equipment. Responsible for the complete service of all
air conditioning systems.
Essential Functions
Function 1:
Repair and maintain refrigeration and air conditioning equipment, services cold
storage units, refrigerated systems, adjust valves, thermostats and pressure
switches.
20 % Time
Function 2:
Provide advanced technical capability in troubleshooting energy
management/building control systems and other electronic controls.
25 % Time
Function 3:
Install air conditioning equipment and ductwork in new construction projects.
Performs preventive maintenance on air conditioning equipment, refrigeration and
heating equipment.
20 % Time
Function 4:
Maintains, installs, aligns, services and repairs electric motors serving HVAC units,
compressors, vacuum pumps including associated drives, sheaves, couplings.
15 % Time
Function 5:
Repair and maintain steam and hydronic boiler systems. Repairs home type
appliances. Able to perform work on equipment in both the campus and Housing
complexes. Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
High school or vocational school graduation with special courses in electricity,
plumbing or air conditioning. Associates or Bachelor?s degree preferred. Five years
of advanced journeyman/master-level experience in repair and maintenance of air
conditioning and refrigeration equipment and systems. Valid Texas drivers license
required. EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification or ability to obtain certification
within 6 months of hire. Experience and working knowledge of an energy
management/ building control system, preferably Siemens Apogee.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to use all hand and power tools common with the air conditioning and heating
trade. Familiarity with different types of HVAC equipment. Must be accurate in all
phases of work performed. Working conditions are considered acceptable, but
occasionally involve exposure to inclement weather conditions, equipment, tools and
chemicals used in the air conditioning equipment. Alertness and careful attention is
required to avoid injury to self and to others. Specific job requirements or physical
location of positions allocated to this classification render the position security
sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education
Code.
