Air Conditioning Mechanic I Job Description TITLE: Air Conditioning Mechanic I JOB CODE: 5319 EFFECTIVE DATE: FLSA STATUS: NE EEO6 CODE: 6 = Skilled Crafts PURPOSE: To provide skills at the journeyman level on repairing and maintaining air conditioning equipment. Responsible for the complete service of all air conditioning systems. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Repair and maintain refrigeration and air conditioning equipment, services cold storage units, refrigerated systems, adjust valves, thermostats and pressure switches. Install air conditioning equipment and ductwork in new construction projects. Performs preventive maintenance on air conditioning equipment, refrigeration and heating equipment. Repairs and cleans steam, air and water filters. Packs and repairs electric motors. Repairs home type appliances. Performs related duties as assigned. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: Specific written or oral instructions from Air Conditioning Supervisor. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: None. REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: High school or vocational school graduation with special courses in electricity, plumbing or air conditioning. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Five years of skilled/ journeymanlevel experience in repair and maintenance of refrigeration equipment and systems. Valid Texas drivers license required. EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification or ability to obtain certification within 6 months of hire. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Ability to use all hand and power tools common with the air conditioning and heating trade. Familiarity with different types of HVAC equipment. Must be accurate in all phases of work performed. Working conditions are considered acceptable, but occasionally involve exposure to inclement weather conditions, equipment, tools and chemicals used in the air conditioning equipment. Alertness and careful attention is required to avoid injury to self and to others. Specific job requirements or physical location of positions allocated to this classification render the position security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
