THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT ARLINGTON ADMINISTRATIVE AND PROFESSIONAL (NON-TEACHING) JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: CODE: Director, Accounts Payable 0345 FUNCTION: Ensures payments to vendors, reimbursements to faculty and staff are paid properly and in a timely manner. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Reviews, audits and approves payment documents electronically in the DEFINE system. Resolves payment discrepancies with departments, vendors and the accounts payable staff. Trains personnel in job responsibilities. Hires and disciplines employees. Coordinates daily with departments, Procurement, Accounting personnel and vendors regarding payment of invoices. Ensures compliance with applicable State and University rules and regulations. E-mails departments for status of travel requests and travel advances. Develops and keeps current Fiscal Regulations regarding Accounts Payable and Travel Services. ACCOUNTABILITY REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS REPORTS TO: Assistant Vice President for Procurement Services SUPERVISES: Accounting Technicians (3) and Accounting Clerk IIIs (4) INTERNAL CONTROL: Responsible for the design, execution, and effectiveness of a system of internal controls which provides reasonable assurance that department operations are effective and efficient, department assets are safeguarded, department financial information is reliable, and the department complies with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. WORKING CONDITIONS: Environmental demands Exposure to standard office conditions. Physical tasks Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Business Administration or related field. Five years experience within an Accounts Payable department preferably in an institution of higher education including 3 years of supervisory experience. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must have excellent computer skills. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
