FUNCTION: To serve as the Associate Dean in the School of Architecture,
administering to the faculty and staff needs on behalf of the School. This position will
serve as Dean in exercising authority over the School and its related operations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This position reports directly to the Dean of the
School, and must exercise independent judgment when making decisions on behalf of the
School of Architecture. This position will participate in the preparation of the annual
budget, unit effectiveness plan, annual faculty report, budget planning process, and
participates in the long and short range planning processes of the three major programs
within the school. This position will carry the full range of personnel management
responsibilities as Dean in the Dean’s absence, and develops and administers policies and
procedures; advises and consults with administration and management regarding plans,
issues, and problems associated with assigned area; plans, attends and/or represents the
University in meetings; maintains effective relationship with external, regulatory, and
funding bodies as required, ensures compliance with applicable University policies and
local, state, and federal requirements.
ACCOUNTABILITY
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
REPORTS TO: Dean of the School of Architecture
SUPERVISES: Supervision by this position will be in the Dean’s absence.
INTERNAL CONTROL: Responsible for the design, execution, and effectiveness of a
system of internal controls which provides reasonable assurance that department
operations are effective and efficient, department assets are safeguarded, department
financial information is reliable, and the department complies with applicable laws,
regulations, policies, and procedures.
WORKING CONDITIONS: This position is a 40 hr week plus any time authorized by
the Dean needed in order to get he job done. Travel will be authorized by the Dean as
needed on behalf of the School of Architecture.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Extensive knowledge of Architecture, computer
skills a must, and thorough knowledge and great interaction with students a must. Must
be multi-task oriented.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Professional Degree in Architecture, Registered
Architect, and must be a member of the American Institute of Architects. Specific job
requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification, may
render the position security sensitive, and thereby subject to the provisions of Section
§51.215 Texas Education Code.
