Instructional Designer Job Description TITLE: Instructional Designer JOB CODE: 8108 EFFECTIVE DATE: FLSA STATUS: E EEO6 CODE: 3 = Professional/Non-faculty PURPOSE: To provide instructional and program design expertise for the development and support of academic courses and specialized educational programs delivered via distance education. Responsible for assisting faculty and program director in the design of curriculum and instruction, development of learning resources, and retooling of courses and course segments to electronic delivery methods. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Collaborate with faculty on instructional design issues, create web pages, and manage online course development. Consults with individual or groups of faculty on optimal design of curriculum and instruction and effective uses of multimedia. Manages course projects from inception to completion. Develops curriculum guides for courses and/or program components. Designs and supervises production of learning resources in variety of formats including print, graphics, audio, video, and animation technologies to support curriculum offerings. Provide design and production assistance to faculty in the development of electronic delivery methods. As technology and software development products advance, explore and make recommendations for multimedia software for use by faculty and others in school. May perform other duties as assigned. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: Work is performed under minimum supervision of an Executive/Administrative position and/or supervision of instructional design specialist of higher grade. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: May provide working supervision of clerical personnel, graduate research assistants, and production personnel by planning, coordinating, assigning, and reviewing work. REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: Bachelor's degree in instructional technology, education, communications, information technology, or curriculum design or related field. Master's degree in instructional technology, education, communications, information technology, or curriculum design or related field. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: One to three years experience in course design or curriculum design, preferably in higher education. Three to five years experience in course design or curriculum design, preferably in higher education. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must have excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills. Use of personal computers and other standard office equipment. Training and experience with advanced multimedia authoring software and Web site design software (such as HTML, Java, Java Script, Macromedia Dream weaver, Macromedia Flash, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, etc.).
