PURPOSE: To provide information systems auditing skills on large and complex audits of
computer applications and technological issues in accordance with the Institute of Internal
Auditor's Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing and Code of Ethics and
other established State and University regulations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Works in direct support of the Director of Internal Audit
and/or Audit Manager in planning and/or participating in internal audit work performed at The
University of Texas at Arlington. Essential duties and responsibilities are: assumes responsibility
for information technology audits; demonstrate proficiency by applying information systems
audit principles, skills, and techniques to review and test computer applications and information
systems technology of varying complexity; apply internal control concepts in the information
technology environment; prepare audit reports and audit programs; understand financial,
operational, and compliance risk and be able to formulate solutions to mitigate risks in the
information technology environment; prioritize work to higher risk areas; prepare acceptable
working papers to support procedures, results, findings, and recommendations and communicate
effectively to all levels of management orally as well as in writing; complete work assignments
independently or as part of a team; interact effectively and establish rapport with a wide variety
of people in diverse settings; demonstrate effective time management with project time budgets,
scheduling, and multiple tasks; conduct audit field work; prepare audit work papers and audit
reports for review by the Audit Manager, or the Director of Internal Audit; complies with the
International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing and the Code of Ethics
adopted by The Institute of Internal Auditors; reviews drafts of audit reports which have been
prepared by other members of the UT Arlington Internal Audit staff; communicates audit status
with Senior Auditor(s), the Audit Manager, the Director, and clients through phone calls,
meetings, correspondence, or by electronic mail; monitors and weekly reports time spent on
audit assignments and other duties; assists in various special projects; performs other duties as
assigned by the Audit Manager or the Director of Internal Audit.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
REPORTS TO: The Director of Internal Audit at The University of Texas at Arlington.
SUPERVISION: N/A
SUPERVISION-OTHER: Receives direct supervision from the Director of Internal Audit
and/or Audit Manager. May provide general supervision of other information systems
auditors or traditional internal auditors as warranted by audit projects.
REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education
REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: Bachelors degree in accounting, finance, management or
information systems; Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) designation, five years of
previous experience in accounting or auditing position(s) within a public or private college or
university, a state or federal agency, an accounting/auditing firm, or with a corporation; high
ethical standards and values; ability to organize work activities; ability to communicate
effectively, both orally and in writing; demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team;
working knowledge of the principles and practice of accounting and auditing.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Position may require extended hours (daily), work on weekends (on
occasion) and occasional travel to Austin or to other cities for meetings and/or for training
sessions, workshops, etc. Certified Public Accountant and/or Certified Internal Auditor
preferred; ability to effectively use a personal computer and a solid working knowledge of word
processing and spreadsheet software commonly used in a modern audit or business office, and
the ability to use e-mail on a regular basis as a business communication tool; experience working
with modern, sophisticated, computer-based accounting and financial reporting systems in a
large, complex organization preferred. Specific job requirements or physical location of some
positions allocated to this classification, may render the position security sensitive, and thereby
subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
