Academic Advisor III Purpose Purpose: Advising science and mathematics teacher candidates, College of Science; assisting with implementation and assessment of efficient operations, understanding and communicating the needs of science and mathematics teacher certification majors to the administration; establishing policies for the advising of these students Essential Functions Function 1: Assist with the coordination and supervision of complex advising for students seeking science and mathematics teacher certification and degree completion. Oversee staff when requested by supervisor/director. 20 % Time Function 2: Provide program implementation; interpret institutional rules to students facilitating the exchange of academic advising information to students, faculty and administration; explore new models for effective and efficient delivery of academic advising. 20 % Time Function 3: Collect data; prepare quarterly reports; account for meeting program objectives; prepare annual required budget plans and other information for the UTeach program advising unit. 20 % Time Function 4: Coordinate academic advising activities/projects among the academic advising community; interact with and perform various outreach functions with groups, including students, faculty, staff, administrators, community members and parents; represent the unit in community events that may occur outside of normal work hours; handle publicity. Will be involved in recruiting students to the science and mathematics teacher certification programs. 10 % Time Function 5: Assist with the recruitment and training of academic advising staff. 10 % Time Function 6: Periodically participate in professional conferences and individual professional development. Serve on committees relevant to the mission of the UTeach advising unit. 10 % Time Function 7: Perform other duties as assigned. 10 % Time Marginal/Incidental Functions Marginal/Incidental Functions: Other functions as assigned. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Masters degree. 6 years of higher education experience with minimum of 4 years in direct academic advising.
