Greene County Extension Summer Assistant Job Description This position works closely with all Greene County Extension staff to assist in implementing summer programming in Greene County related to Youth/4-H, Human Sciences, Agriculture and Natural Resources, and Community Economic Development. This temporary position is a 12-week experience at 32 hours/week. Work may begin as early as May 12th, 2014, and end no later than August 22nd, 2014. Pay is $9/hr. Job duties include assistance with the following: All aspects of the Greene County Fair, including, but not limited to, paperwork, posters, flyers, displays, organization, livestock registration, data entry for livestock, show programs, t-shirt organization and ordering, 4-H Livestock office preparation, materials for 4-H Food Stand (punch cards, order slips, and menus), judges packets, ultrasound preparations and organization, copies, etc. Clover Kids day camp program and follow up, as well as other potential day camps held throughout the summer Preparation and execution of 4-H Communications Day and 4-H Clothing Event, both pre-fair activities and activities during county fair Assembly of packets and folders for summer programs Creation and/or mailing of postcards, newsletters, flyers, etc. Website updating, including posting of stories, photos, and calendar of events items Mid-Life and Beyond program, including meeting preparation, committee support, notifications of upcoming events, etc. Greene Leadership steering committee, including meeting preparation, making meeting location arrangements, as well as creation of documents, brochures, posters, and other course content/marketing materials Greene County Master Gardener summer meetings and summer events, including registration/coordination for bus trip and other programs, as well as brochures, posters, and general promotion Summer 4-H/youth camp experiences, including copies, refreshments, and kit organization and set up Powerful Tools for Caregivers program, including session preparation, refreshments, handouts, and set up Family Storyteller program, including copies, session preparation, materials preparation, and set up Mentoring program, including assistance with setting up for activities and advisory committee preparation Any other programs that occur during the summer State fair preparation and data entry, as well as date reservations and helping organize advancing static exhibits to be transported to Des Moines Enhanced publicity and marketing for upcoming programs and events, including photos, videos, social media, newspaper and other promotional venues Answering phones, taking and entering registrations for various programs, coordinating State 4-H Conference registration, organizing files, publication orders and receipting, and other office assistance Other duties as assigned by County Extension Coordinator, County Youth and 4-H Coordinator, Office Assistant, County Families Coordinator, Mentoring Coordinator, and Family Finance Program Specialist Flexibility and a team attitude are required. Must be willing to promote a positive office environment by providing feedback, being open to learning new skills, and being able to receive constructive criticism. Background check is required. Work hours will vary, but normal office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
