Fashionista?
Check out Clothing Event!
There are 3 events you can participate in!

Clothing Selection—4-H’ers select and purchase an outfit for themselves to develop skills in buying
clothing for a particular purpose i.e. interview, holiday, etc. Clothing may be purchased, new or used,
from any source.

Fashion Revue—4-H’ers construct, hand knit, or crochet a garment for themselves. If a shirt or
sweater is worn under a coat or jacket, it may be purchased or made; applications added to a garment

not count.


sale for themselves without spending over $15. NOTE: Receipts must be attached to the $15 Challenge
Report Form; ask garage sale seller to hand write a receipt including item, price, and the seller's
signature. Your outfit cannot be from a clearance rack at a department store*, discount store*, gift*,

How do I select a Clothing Selection outfit? You want to select an outfit you like and that flatters you. Think of the
clothing you wear for different occasions: school dances, church events, weddings, livestock exhibition, athletic events,
even pajama day at school. This is your chance to showcase the perfect outfit for an event!
What paperwork is required for Clothing Selection? You must take a Report Form to the judge. Questions asked on the
form include: your goal and how you reached it, how you selected the clothing, how/why the clothing serves a purpose,
and cost and functionality of the outfit.
What are you judged on? Judges are given an evaluation sheet for scoring and commentary.
Areas of Evaluation
 Project goal
 Attractiveness of garment
 Choosing clothing
 Fit of garment
 Consumer skills
 Interview Poise
 Presentation of the garment
 Communication skills
What happens on judging day? You will walk into the judging room and model your outfit while a volunteer reads your
commentary. Then, you will sit and talk with the judge about your goal, outfit, selection reasoning, clothing cost, and
clothing care. You will talk with the judge for 10-15 minutes.
Do I have to model my outfit at the Fashion Show? No, you do not have to model your outfit at the fair’s Fashion Show.
It is encouraged, not required! Ribbons and placings are awarded at the Fashion Show.
Can I show this exhibit in multiple classes? The outfit can only be entered in one Clothing Event category, but you may
also enter a Clothing Selection and/or $15 Challenge Outfit in class 10402 Clothing & Fashion; Fashion Revue can enter
class 10402 Clothing & Fashion or 10407 Sewing & Needle Arts.
Can this project area go to the State Fair? Yes, if you are 9th grade and older. Participants 8th grade and younger can
