Accommodations

LOGISTICAL DETAILS OF TRIP

Itinerary emailed separately. This 8 day, 7 night cycle trip combines daily moderate cycling (approximately 30 miles a day) through Italy's gorgeous rolling countryside with emphasis on enjoying and learning about the famed Tuscan food and renowned wines.

We will base for four nights in Pienza and three nights in Montalcino. Staying in these medieval towns allows participants to stroll the town, sightsee and shop after the day's ride. In Pienza our focus is on food. Our loop rides take us past farms, vineyards and olive groves. We visit a working farm (Podereil Casale) and help prepare our lunch with fresh farm ingredients. We have a cooking class at La Fonte where we prepare our dinner. In Montalcino the focus is on wine. Our loop rides take us past vineyards of the

Sangiovase grape which makes the famous Brunello wines. We will tour several vineyards where we learn about wine production and have the option of wine tastings.

In Pienza we stay at Il Choistro which is a 15 th century Franciscan convent. There is a

Participants can prepare their lunches and snacks to bring on the day's rides or purchase lunch on the way. One lunch is on a farm. We help prepare this lunch and it is included in the trip cost. Dinners: There are 4 group dinners in local restaurants, two dinners that participants choose their own restaurant and are given an allowance and one cooking class where we prepare our own dinner.

Participants travel by train to Chiusi (1.5 hours from Rome) Chiusi is a major stop on all of the Rome- Florence lines so if participants are coming from elsewhere in Italy they can easily get to Chiusi. Leaders will rent an 8 person van in Chiusi to transport participants to and from Pienza at the start and end of the trip. The van will also be used to transport to the cooking class and to transport the bags from Pienza to Montelcino and back.
