Form Revised February 2014
This is a road biking trip that offers participants two levels of biking daily. Option 1 is
moderate, 30 miles. Option 2 is advanced at 60 miles daily. We will stay at one location,
a hostel in Lucerne, except for one night in Interlaken hostel, and make daily trips from
there. We will purchase Swiss pass for participants, and will travel to starting locations,
or return by, the train. Participants can opt-out of biking if they want to take a day off or
if they want to explore on their own.
We will stay at the Swiss Youth Hostel in Luzern, except for one night in Swiss Youth
Hostel in Interlaken.
Breakfast and dinner are included at the hostel, lunches will be on our own. We envision
shopping collectively for picnic lunches, but participants are free to select their own
choices for lunches.
Swiss rail. We will purchase a regional pass for Luzern and neighbouring area that we
will bicycle in. The pass also includes some mountain lifts & local buses that participants
can use when they are on their own. There will be two trips outside of this region from
Bern & Basel, in which case we will pay the individual ticket cost. All costs are included

the usual perils that exist with road biking
Road biking carries an inherent risk of injury due to falls or collision. The roads we are
using are paved and shared with car traffic. Both leaders are WFR & CPR certified, and
will be carrying basic first aid kits. Safety talks will precede each day's ride, and we will
review the rules of the road prior to starting the trip. All participants are required to wear
a helmet.

We will be using local train transportation to get to and from some biking start points.
Level of fitness, screening concerns, experience with equipment or activity
The level of riding is moderate to advanced, and through trip description and screening,
we should be able to ascertain that the level of fitness is appropriate for the trip. It is
more important for us to ascertain that our applicants are experienced with riding on
roadways shared by motorists. We have the unique offering of two levels of rides each
day: a moderate ride of ~30 miles, and an advanced ride of ~60 miles. There is the option
to not ride if appropriate and necessary.
Conditions unique to this type of trip
