Cinque Terre we will be able to see how the land is farmed while walking the
trails between villages. We will be able to take ferries to visit old monastaries
and forts. In Italy as in most of Europe, people are very concerned with
conservation. Gasoline is expensive as is electricity. We will use public
transportation when practical, especially in the Cinque Terre area.

RISK ASSESSMENT
Please assess the risks and hazards of your trip. Carefully consider each area of risk and how it may affect your trip.
Devise a plan to prevent each hazard and to respond to it if it becomes necessary. Please be very specific for each section
if applicable.
Trail conditions, river crossings, weather, wildlife (bears, snakes, etc.)
Climate/terrain
Potential hazards
Hiking in this area is relatively easy. The trails are good and well marked. Risks would
be the same as with any hiking trip; a fall, twisted ankle, etc.
Response
We will have transportation at the trail head and not be far from villages on our hikes.
We will also have first aid kits and be able to deal with minor injuries on the trail
Political concerns, crime, language translation, terrorism
Foreign Country
Potential hazards
Language could be a barrier but was not a major problem on the last trip as most locals
speak English.
Response
We will have dictionaries and there are English speaking people in each place that we
are staying. All of our tour guides and hiking guides speak English. Leader has been to
this area previously.
Road conditions, drivers, insurance

Participants
Potential hazards
Participants will have to be screened for physical conditioning and will have to have
hiking experience. Hiking boots, day packs, rain gear are the essentials.

policy for the participants?
After April 15th----Cancellation fee is $200 plus any additional money necessary to
keep the trip cost from increasing and creating a greater expense to other trip
participants. The cancellation fee will be limited to $200, IF a qualified replacement
can be found by the trip leaders. We will establish a waiting list. This if you cancel
and are not replaced, you will forfeit the $200 plus the per capita expenses already
incurred and any other unpaid expenses for which the trip cannot obtain a refund. Your
cancellation shall not raise the cost of the trip to any of the participants or the leaders.
You may forfeit the entire trip fee. Flight tickets once purchased become your
property and are generally non-refundable. We strongly recommend that you purchase
travel insurance. Information on a company recommended by the AMC will be sent to
you. Trip insurance is recommended, since an illness, accident or death in the family
can interfere with your plans. Trip insurance can be obtained through your travel
agent or the leaders will provide you with a brochure/information of a company
recommended by AMC.
