If yes, why is a small group proposed? A small group is proposed because we are organizing a backcountry canoe trip. The group spreads out quickly on the river and it takes the full participation of both leaders to keep the group together. Camping sites are limited in size.

LOGISTICAL DETAILS OF TRIP

Day 1- Fly into Memphis, night on the town for food and music (on your own).

Day 2 - pick up cars, drive to Harrison, Arkansas overnight

Day 3-6 - wilderness canoe trip on the Buffalo River staying at primitive canpsites

Day 7-8 - 3 nights in cabins ajoining the Ponca wilderness. Options include daily hikes and/or a visit to Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, AK

Day 9 drive to Memphis and fly out

We will stay in a combination of hotels and cabins when we are not on the river where we will be staying at primitive campgrounds along the river. The cabins will provide us with kitchens in order to prepare meals.

All meals with be provided during this trip. We are planning to prepare group meals during the canoe trip and most of the meals when we are in the cabins. We will have two restaurant dinners, two restaurant breakfasts, and one restaurant lunch. First night meal in Memphis not included.

We will be renting two minivans (for 8 particpants) or 3 full-size cars (10 Participants) in order to drive participants to the different locations. There is a small shuttle fee for

Canoes are required but they will be rented in the area. Backpacking equipment such as tents and stoves are required as we will be camping. Participants will bring their own camping gear. Leaders will supply cooking equipment

We will be canoeing in a park where there are public campgrounds every four to five miles along the river. Both leaders are AWFA certified. The leader has had extensive canoe safety training. PFD's will be required at all times.

North Arkansas Regional Medical Center in Harrison, AK 870-414-4000. Full emergency services. The river is run by the National Park Service which would be responsible for any emergency evacuations. Park headquarters(870) 439-2502.

Contact will be made with emergency personnel using cell phone if it is available, or through National Park service staff. Take-out points are located every 5-6 miles to paddle for help.

The purchase of non-refundable airline tickets will be postponed until it seems clear that the trip will go, either three months before arrival or after at least 8 participants commit, whichever is first.

$500 with the application and the balance due 3 months before the trip.

Cancellation by an accepted participant will not be allowed to raise the cost to the other participants or to the leaders. If a replacement is found for the cancelled participant, there will be a full refund. Otherwise, a refund will be given to the point where the trip price is not affected.
