Executive summary

description of the trip and the
activities planned.
A hiking/walking week (or 12 days)in the Azores on Sao Miguel, the largest island. We
will spend 3 days in central Furnas , hiking a volcanic crater, Furnas Lake,visitng
thermal springs and gardens, and hiking in nature preserves. The next 3 days are in
western Ponta Delgada, the largest town , hiking Sete Cidades-- a caldera, the village.
On Pico 3 days with more hiking with the option to climb Mt Pico with a guide. Ferry to
Faial for last night -shipbuilding port and yachting center for cross-Atlantic boaters.

The Azores is an archipelago formed from upper sections of volcanoes. We will explore
many of the protected zones of flora, coastal cliffs, and nture preserves. In Ponta
Delgada, the capital, we will be able to visit museums and galleries. Throughout our
stay we will experience daily life on volcanic islands separated by miles of oceans to any
mainland.
