Executive summary
Please provide a brief
description of the trip and the
activities planned.
We will fly to Queenstown on New Zealand's South Island, hike Ben Lomond, do the
Routeburn and Kepler Great Walks, 3 day, 2 night hut to hut tramps. Upon return to
Queenstown we will rent cars and drive to beautiful Wanaka for some hiking and
sightseeing. Drive north to explore the Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers. Continue driving
north and then west, stopping for some fine hikes and staying in motels along the way.
Spend three days hiking and sightseeing around Christchurch. Fly home from
Christchurch.
4 nights in huts on Routeburn & Kepler Tracks, the rest in motels, 2 nights Queenstown,
3 nights Te Anau, 3 nights Wanaka, 1 night Fox Glacier, 1 night Hokitika, 1 night in
Greymouth, 1 night in Reefton, 3 nights in Christchurch
15 dinners at nice restaurants included. Participants purchase freeze dried food and
snacks for Great Walks as well as breakfasts and lunches for the rest of the trip

New Zealand is probably the most environmentally concerned country in the world. We
will learn what they are doing to protet their environment which is quite different from
ours. We will learn about the Maoris, the native people of New Zealand, and how the
country was settled by the English.

New Zealand dollar was worth $0.71 on 11/28/09. The budget allows for the possibility
of the New Zealand dollar rising to $0.80.
Air New Zealand requires a $75 deposit when reservations are made. Full payment is
required when the reservations are made for the huts on the Routeburn and Kepler
Tracks. Some motels may require partial deposits.
Air New Zealand deposits are fully refundable up to 60 days before flights. Hut
reservations are 75% refundable up to 10 days before arrival.
$1,500 initial deposit. Balance of $2,900 due December 5, 2010.
Refund will be given to the extent that it will not raise the costs to the other participants.
If the person's spot can be filled, that person may be entitled to up to a full refund of any
costs (less a handling fee of $100). Refund of any cost of airline ticket will be
determined by airline policy and worked out between the participant and the airline.
