Is this proposal for a small group trip – i.e., less than 14 participants and 2 leaders
or 7 participants and 1 leader? Yes
No
If yes, why is a small group proposed? It would go against the principles of the
AMC and The NPS to have groups over 12 in size, since they are viewed to have a
negative impact on the environment.
If a participant fee increase of more than 15% is proposed, please explain
why? 20%: Leader/s do an enormous amount of work in quartermastering a
backpacking trip. Tasks include, the gathering, maintenance, aquisition, and repair of
shelter, cooking, and emergency equipment. Also a significant undertaking is the
creation of a menu, shopping list, shopping, dehydration, and packaging of meals. On
the trip the leaders are technical experts in the safe use of all of the trip equipment.
Leaders are also technically competent in the use of compass, topographical maps, and
tide charts. Overall, the trip leader are required to to perform many complex technical
tasks. Furthermore, trip participants are reliant upon the technical expertise of the
leaders.
