To lead a major excursion you must have current CPR and WFA at the time of your trip (or AWFA for all backcountry
trips). If you do not have the required level of certification at the time you submit your proposal or it will expire before
the date of your trip, you will need to make arrangements to recertify in a timely manner.

Executive summary
Please provide a brief
description of the trip and the
activities planned.
Eighteen fabulous days in Greece including three most spectacular Greek Islands. Start
in Athens, see National Archeological Museum and Acropolis. Ferry to Naxos, greenest
island in the Cyclades, with impressively high mountains, fertile valleys. Locals still
wear traditional dress and weave on old looms. We will walk routes between old
churches, monasteries, Venetian castles, quaint untouched towns. Santorini, often called
“Lost City of Atlantis” slopes downward from cliffs to surrounding Mediterranean Sea:
known for dramatic cliffs, gorgeous sunset, romantic black sand beaches, ruins of
Akrotiri. Lastly, we explore Crete, largest of Greek Islands, with villages accessed only
by boat. Hiking the 18 km Samaria Gorge, longest gorge in Europe, will be available.

Conservation - Samaria Gorge contains rare plants, including the endangered large
peony, paeonia clusii; endangered Lammergeier (or bearded vulture).
Education - Athens is a cultural and historical trip to visit the National Archeological
Museum and the Acropolis. We visit Santorini to learn how the island was created by a,
now dormant, volcano, giving way to some stunning scenery. The geographical location
of the Gorge of Samaria, in the White Mountains, has a played an important role as a
