TRIP DETAILS A) Executive Summary: Brief outline of trip and trip activities. Fly Lufthansa Air from either Boston or New York to Innsbruck Austria via Frankfurt. Board chartered bus at airport to Neustift. We will have seven exciting hiking days in the beautiful Stubai valley surrounded by magnificent alpine peaks and meadows. Each day either an Easy Intermediate or an Advanced Intermediate hike will be offered,the first two days' hikes for acclimatization at lower levels,then using cable cars to start higher,at the slow "GUIDES PACE". We will hike to alpine huts for a superb lunch each day,and enjoy some of the most beautiful views in Europe. All hikes are on trails well maintained by hiking clubs. We will attend a folk dancing/singing evening in village community center. The second week we will savor the cultural and historic sites of Salzburg and Vienna. First in Salzburg with special emphasis on Mozart's music and life,2006 is "Year of Mozart",his 250th birthday with many new interests being built and updated. Three special restaurants have been chosen for group dinners, one has served since 803. We will tour museums,churches,Nonnberg Abbey,Hohensalzburg Fortress and will offer optional concerts in the evening. Then we will visit Vienna to explore the old city with it's endless treasures. We will visit the Hofburg and Schonbrunn Palaces,the Treasury,Art Museum and Opera House. Four special restaurants have been chosen for group dinners,each with it's own special atmosphere. Optional concerts will be offered in the evening on two nights. Return flight from Vienna to Frankfurt to Boston and New York. In Neustift we'll be staying at the delightful 3-star Hotel Bellevue,with full buffet breakfast and 4-star dinners. In Salzburg we will stay at Institut St. Sebastian,a women's college in the winter. We will have a special full breakfast for our group in a private room. In Vienna we will stay at the 3-star Hotel Atlas,which in the winter is a university dorm,full buffet breakfast. In 2004 after co-leading Zermatt Hiking Adventure #0430,visited Austria for 12 days for the purpose of preparing an itinerary and costs for a future proposed AMC Major Excursion. Pick pockets.<Political concerns, crime, language translation.> Response: Check State Dept. advisories. Know some German,carry dictionary and phrase books. Health conditions dictate what level you will be allowed to hike. TRIP PROPOSAL AND APPROVAL PROCESS Trips cannot come before the Major Excursions Committee for approval unless the forms are completely filled out and received three weeks prior to MEC meetings for review. Please make sure you have filled out all appropriate sections of this form completely. Note that the following forms are also required to complete the application; see the Handbook section of the Major Excursions web site for forms and instructions.
