Midweek, we will also raft locally with a major outfiter who operates on 10 rivers within the Cascades. B) Accommodations: Please describe your plans for accommodation(s). RISK ASSESSMENT Please assess the risks/hazards of your trip. Carefully consider each area of risk and how it may affect your trip with specific potential hazards. Then, devise a plan to attempt to prevent each hazard and to respond to it if it becomes necessary. A) Climate/Terrain Potential Hazards: <Trail conditions, weather, etc.> Response: <Trails are somewhat better than Whites. We slow down over rough spots. We have not experienced rain or high winds but we require hikers to carry rain gear, a warm layer, two quarts of water, plenty of food. B) Foreign Countries Potential Hazards: <Political concerns, crime, language translation.> Response: <Prevention or response to identified risks> C) Transportation Potential Hazards: <We use a 7 passenger van and an 8 passenger Suburban. They are stable vehicles. We carry full insurance. Also carry an AAA card in the event road service is necessary. Response: < D) Participants Potential Hazards: <We monitor hikers frequently to make sure that they are ok and remind them to drink water. We also urge them to attend to minor foot problems promptly provide examinations and first aid suppies if necessary. A) Emergency Communication <We carry cell phones. On the first day we meet with those that have medical training and briefly walk though emergency assignments. We also discuss emergency procedures with the group. B) Evacuation <We hike in National Parks and comply with their instruction if evacuation is necessary. There is a second first aid facility at the ski area on Mt Baker-- a major trail head is located there. Before you leave for you trip, you will need to provide a list of participants and their emergency contacts in case something happens to someone in the field as well as an itinerary with phone numbers (where available) in case something happens at home. TRIP PROPOSAL AND APPROVAL PROCESS Trips cannot come before the Major Excursions Committee for approval unless the forms are completely filled out and received three weeks prior to MEC meetings for review. Please make sure you have filled out all appropriate sections of this form completely.
