AMC Cinnamon Bay Trip Itinerary March 19-27 2004
Friday 3/19
Late afternoon arrival at Cinnamon Bay. Move into assigned accommodations. Buy ice
and a few basic staples from the campground commissary as needed. We recommend
having dinner at the campground restaurant this first evening to ease the settling in
process.
Saturday 3/20
9:00am Orientation Meeting. Meet at Tent Compound B.
Please join us to go over details for the week and review health & safety tips.
10:00am Driver volunteers meet at Cinnamon Bay taxi stand for trip to register at
Varlack Ventures in Cruz Bay. Any additional trip participants interested in touring Cruz
Bay or grocery shopping may join us (at $4.00 per person). Rides back from town can be
arranged with our volunteer drivers.
5:15pm Let’s Get Acquainted Meeting.
Meet at tent compound B. Leaders will provide beverages and appetizers for all. We will
go over sign up sheets for the weekly activities and of course, get acquainted!
Sunday 3/21
9:45am Meet at Jeeps for trip to Leinster Bay for Water’s Edge Walk with a Park
Ranger. Bring suntan lotion, lunch, water, and snorkel gear. Optional snorkeling at
Waterlemon Key.
5:15pm Meeting in Compound B
Monday 3/22
9:00am Meet at jeeps for Reef Bay hike (scheduled 10:00 to approx. 3:00pm). This is a
ranger led 3 mile hike where you will learn about the secrets of St. John’s tropical forests,
petroglyphs, and sugar mill ruins. Participants should bring lunch, water and
swimsuit/snorkel gear for a dip at trail’s end. Participants can either hike back up the trail
or reserve a boat ride back to Cruz Bay where we will pick you up for the return to
Cinnamon Bay. The boat ride is $20 per person.
5:15pm Meeting in Compound B
7:30pm Ranger Lecture at Cinnamon Bay Amphitheater
Tuesday 3/23
8:30am Meet at Jeeps for hike to Brown Bay. This is a fast paced yet moderate hike.
Hiking participants can have their snorkel gear go with those planning to drive to the
snorkel destination. Hikers should bring lunch and plenty of water.
11:30am Those wishing to drive to the Brown Bay snorkel location should meet at the
Cinnamon Bay parking lot. Bring snorkel gear and lunch.
5:15pm Meeting in Compound B
Wednesday 3/24
8:30am Meet at Jeeps for snorkeling at Salt Pond Bay and optional hike to Ram’s Head.
Please bring snorkel gear, sun lotion, lunch, and plenty of water. Wear appropriate
footwear if you elect to do the hike to Ram’s Head.
5:15pm Meeting at Compound B
5:45pm “Evening on the Town”. Meeting at Compound B for a ride into Cruz Bay. Feel
free to go to the restaurant of your choice. Reservations may be needed at some
establishments.
Thursday 3/25
7:30am Meet promptly at the jeeps for optional Catamaran trip to Jost Van Dyke and
Tortola in the British Virgin Islands. Bring passport and bathing/snorkel gear. You can
either bring a lunch or purchase one at Jost Van Dyke. Return to Cinnamon will be late
afternoon.
No evening meeting.
Friday 3/26
9:00am at the Jeeps for hike and snorkel trip to Lameshure Bay. Please bring water,
snorkel gear, lunch and sun lotion. This is a moderate hike but can be tiring in the heat.
Return to Cinnamon in mid afternoon.
5:15pm Meeting in Compound B
6:30pm Meet at jeeps to go for dinner at the Ship Wreck’s Landing in Coral Bay.
Saturday 3/27
9:00am Meet at the Jeeps for a snorkel trip to Frances Bay. Bring your own snorkel gear.
We will leave for Cinnamon Bay by 10:30 am.
Noon Meet at the jeeps for optional buffet lunch at Caneel Bay resort.
5:15pm AMC Farewell Party and Meeting in Compound B.
Sunday 3/28
Pack up gear for departure from Cinnamon Bay Campground. Departure time and details
to be determined.
The above schedule may be subject to change. Please try to attend the group meetings
highlighted so you are informed of any changes. Please notify leaders if you can not
attend at meeting. Also, please notify leaders asap if you plan to cancel out on any of the
activities. Lastly, please be considerate of your fellow AMCers and arrive promptly for
scheduled activities. We thank you in advance for your cooperative efforts.
