Dear 4-H’er,
First off congratulations! We are pleased you will be representing your county at the 2015 Iowa
State Fair 4-H Extemporaneous Speaking Program, this is a huge honor! You are scheduled
to give your Extemporaneous Speech at the Iowa State Fair on Sunday, August 23rd. Please
make sure you read all of the information below!
Routine of the Day:
1. Check in is in the 4-H Exhibit Building Annex (Located in the far back of the building).
a. At 8:00 AM you may begin to choose your time slot.
2. At check-in you will receive your participant T-shirt. (One T-shirt/member even if
participating in multiple events.)
3. Orientation will begin at 8:30 AM.

Speech Information:
 Enclosed are the rules for the 2015 Extemporaneous Speaking Event. Please review
them prior to the event date.
 Workspace will be available for the 30 minutes of preparation time.
 Note: 4-H building staff will monitor the preparation room.
 You may bring your own printed reference material to assist in preparation. (See official
rules for more detail).
 Printed reference material from Internet sites is allowed, provided the material
clearly identifies the source of information.
 Use of any electronic device during preparation time is prohibited.
 Judges will make comments and award certificates to all participants at the end of the
half-day. Please make sure you stay the full half-day. We would hate for you to miss
anything!
