The Open Class showcases; crops, orchards and vegetables quilts, crafts and labors of Love from
young and old. The several individuals and entries in Open Class testify to the craftsmen, artists,
chefs, gardeners and farmers in Decatur County and to the popularity of the County Fair’s friendly
competitive events.

GENERAL RULES
1. The fair management shall have the final right to interpret, to amend, and to
add to the rules.
2. In no case shall the Decatur County Fair Association be responsible in any
way for any loss, damage, or injury of any character, to any person, property,
or article, while same is on the fairgrounds, or make any payment for
damage, loss, or injury.
3. All exhibitors must be residents of Decatur County, except out-of-county
parents whose children are enrolled in Decatur County 4-H clubs or FFA
chapters.
4. In classes where no exhibit merits first prize, the judges will award premiums
from second place down; also, when there are fewer entries in a class than
premiums offered, judges will award prizes that the articles deserve.
5. All exhibits will be under the control and direction of the superintendent, but
in no case shall the superintendent or the Decatur County Fair Association be
responsible for any loss or damage that may occur.
6. Exhibitors are limited to one entry in each class except where specifically
stated otherwise.
7. Each exhibit must be the personal work of the exhibitor (except in the
Heritage Department) and may not have been entered in previous years.
The exhibitor must own all entries.
8. Entries in all departments will be taken Thursday, July 21, between 8 a.m.
and 12noon. Exhibits not entered by 12 noon will not be judged unless
exhibitor has obtained the permission of the superintendent.
9. Exhibits will be released beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, July 18.
Exhibits left in place after 4:00 p.m. will be so at the exhibitor’s risk.
10. Premiums will be paid during the open class release time beginning at 12:30
p.m. on Monday, July 25. Premium money not picked up by 4:00 p.m. will
be so at the exhibitor’s risk.
11. Any exhibitor who violates any of the above rules will forfeit all privileges
and premiums.

DIVISION 7 – BEST GARDEN DISPLAY
70. Display of at least ten (10) different varieties of fruits, vegetables, herbs,
and flowers. Display must be in a basket, barrel, or box. Displays will be
judged on attractiveness of display (50%) and products (50%).
All classes will be subdivided into a) Youth (14 and under); b) adult (age 15 and over.)
All specimens must have been grown by the exhibitor.
To expedite entering, each exhibitor is requested to have a list of
entries and furnish a clear container such as plastic bottle.

DIVISION 5 – QUILT BLOCK CONTEST
All blocks entered become the property of the Decatur County Fair. The blocks will
be judged and premiums awarded like other classes in this department. Following the
fair, the blocks will be placed into a quilt to be auctioned at the 2016 Decatur County
Fair. Fabric will be provided to each participant. Do not add fabrics. Blocks should be
12.5 inches finished and ready to set into a quilt. Exhibitors are allowed to enter
more than one block in this class. Anyone interested in participating in this class
should contact Lisa Porter 446-4699 for more details and to receive fabric.
