Livestock Identification
Read the help sheets for staff on entering the weigh-in animal species into 4HOnline (market beef, sheep, market meat goat)
Provide help sheets to families on how to identify and input each animal type into 4HOnline
Require ALL animals to be identified in 4HOnline – both county fair and state fair animals
Do not accept paper ID forms for non-weigh in animals; have the family input the information themselves into 4HOnline
Offer computer access in county office for families without internet access to come in and identify animals in 4HOnline
Encourage county office and/or clubs to have an “ID Night” where youth can identify their animals in the system
Send out reminders weekly via email, newsletter, text message, Facebook, etc. about the identification deadlines:
February 1 – Market Beef
May 15 – all remaining species (except rabbits)
July 1 – Rabbits

• # of DNA punch tags, # of DNA taggers, # of DNA envelopes
• State Office will ship materials out to counties
• $8.00/tag will be invoiced based on order.
Tagging/Submitting DNA samples
• County staff can DNA tag pigs
• Or, have 4-H’er get tags/tagger and bring back DNA samples in special envelope
• Counties mail each kid’s envelope of DNA samples via trackable source
(UPS, FedEx) as one group by May 15 th
• Simple list of 4-H’er names from that county with box of envelopes

If there are no images, they’re not eligible for State Fair
County Fair Swine Show Application & Reporting
1. Fair Application Form – at least 30 days prior to show
2. Fair Show Report – within 5 days after fair show

ALL swine need a tag for show reporting purposes
Ear Notches – Required for State Fair DNA tags and for “old” style county tags; NOT required for USDA (US Shield) tags
